Dr Stephen Cole is a highly experienced Obstetrician and Gynaecologist in Melbourne. He has a wide range of expertise, and specialises in maternal-foetal medicine, low to high risk pregnancy care, foetal surgery consultations, multiple pregnancies, recurrent miscarriage evaluation and treatment, and maternally-assisted caesarean section.
Dr Cole prioritises a holistic approach to pregnancy care and understands the importance of partners and families being involved in the process; he strives to make all patients and families feel safe and supported throughout their journey by creating a calm environment and maintaining clear communication.
By carefully limiting his patients, Dr Cole ensures he can spend more time with each patient and be available for nearly all of their needs. This allows him the privilege of being present for approximately 95% of births among women he cares for. In the event that he is unavailable, there are a few highly esteemed obstetricians whom Dr. Cole has arranged to cover for him in those cases. Additionally, Dr. Cole's practice includes a midwife who provides wellness advice, birth planning and breast feeding support along with general guidance to patients - ensuring they always have someone to turn to during their pregnancy journey.
Dr. Cole is a consultant obstetrician at the Royal Women's Hospital, where he is also head of one of the four Obstetric Units and the Multiple Pregnancy Clinic. He has been involved with foetal therapies for over 12 years and is currently the director of Maternal-Foetal Medicine training at the hospital, preparing specialists to care for women with high-risk pregnancies. He is a Fellow of the The Royal Australian and New Zealand College of Obstetricians and Gynaecologists, and is a member of the Victorian Foetal Therapy Service (VFTS).

Thank you so much Dr Cole, Eliza, CJ, Wendy and Linsey. Each of you played such an important part in helping us keeping our little Hazel safe. If it wasn’t for the things each of you did over the last 23 weeks to make sure I was seen when issue came up, or given advice over the phone, or visiting me while I was an antenatal patient, Dan and I truly don’t think we would be sitting here with our precious little Hazel bear thriving in SCN 🐻 🎀 Not all heroes wear capes, Hazel’s Heroes just happen to wear blue scrubs with a Team Cole logo! We are forever grateful and in awe of the care and compassion you provide every single patient that walks through your doors. We can’t wait to bring her in to meet the rest of you once she’s big and strong.
Positive feedback from my fertility patients who I have referred to Dr Cole for pregnancy care. They know they are in safe hands with a highly skilled maternal fetal medicine specialist.

The arrival of tiny Thomas John Macartney may have been sudden and a big surprise, but the joy he has brought to his family is something special. His besotted parents Cassidy Sharp and Corey Macartney can’t take their eyes off him. His grandmother Lisa Sharp, 55, the surrogate who carefully carried him for almost nine months, is simply in awe: of her first grandson, and of his biological parents Ms Sharp, 27, and her fiance Mr Macartney, 26.
