What are STDs?

Sexually transmitted diseases/infections are those that generally spread through sexual contact. The organisms responsible for STDs spread from one person to another through blood, semen, or other bodily fluids. Such diseases may also spread through other than by sexual contact such as through use of shared injection needles, through blood transfusions or from mother to child during pregnancy.
STDs can be asymptomatic (without any symptoms). People whom may seemingly be healthy carry the infection and may be unaware of the infection.

What are the causes for STDs?

The STDs occur through the spread of bacteria (e.g. gonorrhea, syphilis), viruses (e.g. genital herpes, HIV), parasites (trichomoniasis). The spread maybe through sexual contact or through blood transfusions.

What are the symptoms of STDs?

How are STDs treated?

Depending on the type of STD the treatment includes use of Antibiotics or Antiviral drugs. Antibiotics can cure many types of bacterial and parasitic infections.
