About Mr Mark Foster

Col Mark Foster is a highly experienced Consultant Hand and Plastic Surgeon who combines technical expertise with a kind, compassionate approach to patient care. With a strong belief in restoring hand function as a vital part of improving quality of life, Mr. Foster is deeply committed to helping his patients regain independence, confidence, and mobility after injury or surgery.

He has trained at respected centres including Frimley Park, Frenchay Hospital, and Johannesburg, and studied at the Universities of St Andrews and Manchester. This extensive and diverse training background underpins his clinical excellence and breadth of experience.

Col Foster regularly performs procedures such as carpal tunnel decompression, ganglion excision, trigger finger and trigger thumb release, and surgery for Dupuytren’s contracture. He also manages de Quervain's tenosynovitis. He is also highly skilled in scar revision and excision of skin lesions on the upper limb. His surgical approach is always patient-centred, aiming to restore function as quickly and safely as possible while addressing each individual’s personal goals.

Known for his calm and reassuring manner, Mark is praised by patients for being approachable, clear in his explanations, and genuinely invested in their recovery. He takes time to listen, ensuring that patients feel supported, respected, and well-informed at every stage of their treatment.

 Col Foster is a Fellow of the Royal College of Surgeons of England and the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Glasgow, and an active member of the British Society for Surgery of the Hand.  Also available for Medico-legal work including as a expert witness.

Col Foster was recognised for excellence in Military Medicine this year as an Officer of the Order of St John.

I had a follow up appointment with dr mark . We discussed on going recovery of my hand. H e is helpful and understanding. He checked me and ask me my concerns for my CTS surgery which was done by him in November

Professional, caring, explaining in great detail the procedure of my operation... I was greeted on the morning of my operation by cheerful reception staff, also equally the nurse that prepared me for my procedure... Mr Foster came to see me, reassuring me everything will be fine as I was a little nervous.. Walking into theatre, to good morning's ,& hello From theatre staff,felt reassuring...needless to say everything went well with procedure, after being checked over from nurse & Dr Foster, I wrnt on my merry way.....job well done .
