Mr Paritosh Shah

Mr Paritosh Shah is the Lead Consultant Ophthalmologist at Yeovil Hospital NHS Foundation Trust, a role he has held for over 10 years. He specialises in cataract surgery and offers advanced treatments using toric and extended focus lenses to reduce patients’ dependence on glasses. In addition, Mr Shah has a strong focus on retinal conditions, including macular degeneration, diabetic retinopathy, and retinal vascular disorders, and is skilled in retinal laser treatment and retinal surgery.

As the Clinical Lead for the ophthalmology service, Mr Shah has been instrumental in rebuilding and expanding the department during a challenging period. He has developed strong relationships with the hospital management team and established a well-trained in-house team of optometrists and nurse injectors, which has contributed to an average annual service growth of around 8% and significantly reduced waiting times for cataract surgery.

Mr Shah is also committed to patient engagement; he has successfully established a patient-focused forum for those with retinal conditions, with recent focus groups on age-related macular degeneration receiving high praise from local communities. Additionally, he has actively recruited to the CANDLE trial and maintains a strong interest in research. Earlier in his career, he completed a fellowship in medical retina at Moorfields Eye Hospital, London.
