It is extremely unpleasant being treated as a cash cow. I had diagnostics for cataracts at Bath St on 18 December 2025. It seemed organised and the consultant, Mr Rajesh Deshmukh (RD), answered my questions and so did his practice manager Paula Jessup (PJ). I subsequently asked for written information on the kind of lenses RD recommended and I had agreed to. They are EROV lenses. When I asked for it, PD's response was that RD had talked to me, I said I couldn't remmber everything and my eyes were dilated so I couldn't see information he showed me on his phone. The written information was not provided. in advance of the surgery. PJ directed me to RD's website. The information on the website writes briefly on product benefits, but doesn't explain how they work. I had bilateral cataract surgery on 2 February at New Cavendish. St. Thgere was no explanation, written or verbal, of the process, eg pre-med, med, timing of procedure, rest afterwards. (There is a very brief outline in PD's email of timing). People came and did things to me as the 'animal for slaughter'. Before the procedure, I was given a paper form to fill in for registration. I had already done this at Bath St. Surely the information is on the system. I needed to find my BUPA number and authorisation code again, GP Practice etc. I also had received a pre-procedure call when this information could have been checked etc. For several days, I couldn't read the written instructions provided after the procedure. A nurse did discuss them however I hope it is understandable that I didn't remember all of them. Additionally I couldn't read the numbers on the eye drops packing for several days. The second bullet point on the instructions says 'your vision will be blurry for the rest of the day and possibly the next week'> This is repeated as the 7th bullet point on the instructions on the second page. The instructions have not been prepared with this in mind. On the first page, the instructions also says if you feel any pain or discomfort in the eyes etc please call the clinical helpline number above. The number is not on the document. On the second page, last bullet it says, '....If you vision (there is a typo it should say your vision) becomes significantly more blurred etc, please contact your consultant. On the phone PD, said if you think you have an infection go straight to A&E. All of this is unclear. Overall the instructions are presented in an illogical and careless way. The day after my surgery PD phoned around 6.30 pm to ask about how I was. I would suggest this is too late in the day for a recovering patient, and the instructions say ' we would like you to go home and take it easy'. She also said she would send a prescription for further drops to my GP practice. On Thursday, I phoned to let her know that the GP Practice said they haven't received them. Her response was, if you have received them, they have. Fortunately I had taken a printout of the prescription to my GP surgery and they logged it into the system and have actioned. I do not think the response from PD was helpful and it could be called defensive. There appears to be no-one who takes responsibility for the patient and ensures that they are looked after.

Overall, Spire Elland was great and I would happily return should I require any further procedures in the future. The rooms are spacious and comfortable, and everything is very clean. I think the main thing letting the hospital down is patient communication. All appointments and comms are recorded and delivered via an app. If you don't want to or aren't able to download the app (like me), you do end up being left a little in the dark about things. For example, I had been given a surgery date fairly soon after my initial consultation, which was great, however I hadn't been informed that there would be multiple pre-operative assessment appointments to attend - all of which were on-site at Spire Elland, which is around an hour's drive for us. On one occasion, I had to make last-minute arrangements to move clients around as I'd been unaware of an upcoming appointment - I'd received no email, no text, no phone call, no letter. I just so happened to log in to my online portal and find the appointment date there. I moved clients around so I could attend, and just a couple of days before my appointment received a text message to say the date had changed, with no explanation provided. I called to try and find out why this might be, but was met with a dismissive reply of, "We just had to move it". All of the documents outlining the process for my surgery and the prep I should do beforehand were provided online, and the online portal isn't the simplest to navigate, so accessing them wasn't as easy as it could have been. When I was admitted for my day surgery, the staff were very welcoming and friendly, although I did find that I received a blunt reply whenever I asked a question about anything. This was my first ever surgery and my first time being put under general anaesthetic, so naturally I was quite nervous. Some of the members of staff were very helpful and supportive, but others seemed to have little patience, which wasn't ideal and only served to make me more anxious. When I came to after the surgery, I had been expecting to have a bit of a handover with someone so I could at least find out how it had gone and what they had/hadn't found. Unfortunately, Mr Gan was occupied in another surgery, and so I was discharged before having the chance to speak to him. I asked the nurses for some clarification - any brief notes or insights they might be able to give to put my mind at ease a bit until I could speak with Mr Gan - but this was met with quite curt replies. I was told no one could read Mr Gan's handwriting so no one could tell me any information, which at the time was quite frustrating as I'd been dealing with the pain for so long and had viewed the laparoscopy as the light at the end of the tunnel. It was disheartening to leave the hospital without any real clarification of the issue. Now having had my final follow-up with Mr Gan, I can say with confidence that all of my questions have been answered, and I feel validated and supported as a patient. However, I can't help but feel that had the communication from the hospital team been a little better throughout the process, it wouldn't have been so frustrating to wake up after the surgery and find that no one could tell me how it had gone.

I had a very positive experience at Spire Shawfair Park Hospital. From the moment I arrived, the reception staff were welcoming, efficient, and extremely helpful, making the check‑in process smooth and stress‑free. The hospital itself was immaculate throughout, with clean, modern facilities that created a reassuring and comfortable atmosphere. The layout of the building is thoughtful and spacious, with plenty of room in both the reception and waiting areas, ensuring a calm environment while waiting for my consultation. I never felt crowded or rushed. My consultation took place in a well‑equipped room with high‑quality medical facilities, which further added to my confidence in the care I was receiving. Overall, the combination of cleanliness, efficiency, professional staff, and excellent facilities made my visit exceptionally positive. I would not hesitate to recommend Spire Shawfair Park Hospital to others seeking high‑quality care.

I have been so pleased with my experience of surgery by Dr Shilen Patel. At the first consultation he explained very clearly and in detail what my operation would entail and the possible risks, but without scaring me. This gave me a lot of confidence for the day of the operation, and the surgery went very well. When dressings were removed 10 days after my operation I was really surprised to see how neat the wound was, and it was healing nicely. I had very little pain, and Mr Patel explained to me at my follow up appointment that the tumour had been removed fully without rupturing, so there is very little chance of it returning. He had also explained how they had worked to ensure they did not damage a nearby nerve which I had been so relieved about. In conclusion, I was very pleased with the overall treatment received and with the care and respect I was shown. Thank you.

Abbi Clinic have been nothing short of incredible in supporting me with my recovery journey. I was really apprehensive about this style of ‘therapy’ but I am so glad that I took their advice and tried it because the structure of the clinic is perfectly curated to individuals needs. The staff at Abbi clinic make every effort to ensure that your journey is personalised by getting to know each individual person and it shows in their care and support. A special mention to Kate who I can not thank enough for always giving her undivided attention and showing week in and week out that she genuinely cares to support you in recovery.

I always find the receptionists at The Holly difficult to deal with. The booking in experience is poor as one often has to wait for ages whilst the receptionists are on the phone or chatting or apparently doing something on their computers. It is a pity as the doctors and nurses and other staff including the porters at The Holly are extremely good. The receptionists in both the outpatients area and the scan receptionists need better training and better management. I would say however that the GP area receptionists and the front desk receptionists are very nice and very helpful so I have no issues with them.

My recent visit concluded a decade of consultations with Professor Reid. When I first met David, I was immediately reassured that he was someone I could easily discuss my concerns and future treatment plans. My ten year relationship with him has allowed consistency, empowering me as a patient to make decisions for my treatment and be guided by his expertise in the field of Osteoporosis. He took time to listen to my concerns about a medication's side effects and discuss the available best options for me.

Miss Summerhayes filled me with confidence from our very first consultation. Her guidance was delivered with honesty, kindness, and unwavering support throughout my treatment. Combined with the genuine, wraparound care provided at every stage by Sarah Sanger, my experience was as positive as it could possibly have been under the circumstances. Thanks to their exceptional skill, dedication, and compassion, I have come through my treatment with a positive outcome, for which I will be forever grateful.

Listening, compassion, understanding and the ability to communicate in a clear and considerate manner are qualities most patients look for from a medical professional, together with a desire to seek the route cause of a problem and not simply seek to mitigate the symptoms. I was so pleased that Professor Francisco Leyva-Leon demonstrated all of these qualities and having discovered the root cause of my issues, provided the solution. I am very grateful to him and would not hesitate to recommend him

I had a two night inpatient stay recently after having fairly major surgery at The Woodthorpe Hospital. The individual and quality care I received from my Surgeon, Anaesthetist and Nursing staff made my experience a very positive one. The room was well equipped and the food was good, with every need catered for. Special thanks for making allowances and letting me stay until late in my room on day of discharge. I would definitely recommend this hospital for an overall positive experience.

All staff at Vermilion are friendly yet very professional. I had an emergency referral after losing four front teeth in a sports accident. Every step of my treatment was explained simply yet in detail. This was especially important for me, a stroke survivor, who has difficulty understanding things. My entire treatment was gentle and painless. I was looked after exceptionally well by reception staff, dental nurses, dentists, hygienists. Would recommend Vermilion Kelso 100%. Thank you

Mr Kametas was the obstetrician for the pregnancy and birth of both of my sons. He was a welcome & calming influence who gave us clear, concise updates and comfort throughout. He was very reassuring and easily contactable. My deliveries were managed well (even with the first where I went into labour early) and scar post c-section (second time round) has been notably well done! I couldn’t recommend him more and couldn’t have done it without him.

Following a glaucoma diagnosis by an NHS Medinet Consultant, I wished to address this quickly rather than be placed on a Waiting List. I, therefore, made a private appointment with Dr. Tatham, who was able to say I did not at this stage have glaucoma and explained, in detail and in language I understood, how this could be misdiagnosed. Excellent Consultant. Very impressed.
