I was referred to Newmedica Newcastle for eye cataract surgery by my optician. I had my first eye surgery done in September, and my second eye done in December. I received excellent service from all the Newmedica colleagues whenever I visited; for my pre-surgery consultation, the surgeries themselves, and the post-surgery visits. Those working on the reception were friendly and made me feel welcome. The waiting area was clean and tidy, with hot drinks available. The colleagues who did the testing, pre-surgery administration, and post-surgery follow up checks were all very knowledgeable. They took me through the surgery preparations, explaining the process as they went, putting me at ease and answering any questions. After surgery they made sure I was aware of what I needed to do over the following three weeks to ensure my eyes healed completely. The surgical team were very proficient, and I felt I was in safe hands. The procedure was explained at every step, putting me at ease. The consultant for my first procedure was Nicholas Wride. The procedure itself took just under 3 minutes, which I had not expected, as internet searches indicated it would take anywhere from 15 to 30 minutes. I was so impressed and, as I was told I could have the same consultant for the cataract removal procedure on my second eye, I didn’t hesitate to ask for Nicholas Wride again. My second procedure was equally as expertly performed, and this time took 3 minutes 20 seconds. There was no pain during the procedures and only very slight discomfort straight afterwards. Other than the pain relief eye drops that were put in for the surgical procedure, I didn’t need to take any painkillers at all. The hardest part for me was remembering to use the post-surgery eye drops the clinic provided, as my eyes felt that good. Three weeks after surgery, I attended the clinic for post-surgery follow up checks. I was signed off from the clinic after the follow up check on my second eye. My vision is now excellent, and I only need to use reading glasses for small print. Before the surgery I wore varifocal lens glasses at all times. I wasn’t expecting the improvements in my sight to be quite so good, so I’m pleased I took up the opportunity to have my cataracts removed and really pleased that it was Newmedica Newcastle who did the procedures and looked after me and my sight so well. I had an excellent experience with Mr Sacheen Kumar as part of a coordinated operation involving three surgeons all completing separate procedures. From the outset, he was highly professional, approachable, and reassuring. He took the time to provide a clear and detailed overview of the procedure he would be performing and patiently answered my long list of questions without ever making me feel rushed. What truly stood out was his commitment to patient care. Mr Kumar went above and beyond to align his schedule with the other two surgeons, working late into the evening, to ensure the operation could proceed as planned. Despite heading off on holiday shortly afterwards, he still made the effort to visit me post the operation over the weekend. This level of dedication and professionalism was greatly appreciated and made a significant difference to my overall experience. I would highly recommend Mr Kumar.

I accompanied my 98 years old Mother for her appointment with Professor Ayliffe. He reviewed my Mother’s OCT scan and made the decision that she didn’t need an injection at this time and that he would see her again in April to review her condition. He fully explained his rationale for this decision. My Mother has been a patient of Professor Ayliffe since 2018 when he diagnosed her with macular degeneration. During this time, we have been totally satisfied with treatment my Mother has received from Professor Ayliffe. He has always been very caring towards my Mother and has always fully explained any treatment he has given. Both my Mother and I have total confidence in his treatment of her.

Dr Malik has been the most professional, skilled and compassionate Dr I could ever have wished for. The attention to detail and level of care I have received has been second to none. She carried out a complex c-section on me with incredible results, saving me and my baby. Plus, she has given me an extremely neat scar which I am very happy about. It has been remarked on by every medical professional who has seen it since. I couldn't be any more grateful or recommend her any more highly. I have been a patient of Dr Friedmann for quite some time now and I would not go anywhere else. I suffer with high levels of health anxiety however he is so kind, professional and reassuring that I’m always less anxious about an upcoming appointment and always leave feeling much calmer. When you suffer with health anxiety you often feel like medical professionals don’t take you seriously, this is not the case with Dr Friedmann, he always listens to my concerns and does his upmost to provide the best possible care. If you are somebody who worries about their skin or has ongoing skin issues I would definitely recommend booking in with him.

Liz’s knowledge and expertise were clear, and she took the time to understand me, my injury, my background and my desired outcomes. Not only was the level of care excellent, but I got to see all the same staff most visits. An efficient and friendly team. Apprehensive about a possible root canal - antibiotics first but they indicated I did need a root canal. Excellent treatment - didn’t feel the anaesthetic or any pain regardless of all that was ‘going on’ in my mouth. Dentist and dental nurse were very kind throughout the hours treatment re relaxing jaw. Returning for stage two but not apprehensive about it. Highly recommend.
