The admissions brochure fails to state that family members are not allowed to stay with patients during the pre-operative wait. This is a significant omission, as it creates avoidable anxiety for patients who are already nervous about their procedure and are only informed of this restriction upon arrival. The pre-op nurses showed poor bedside manner when I asked about this. Instead of offering reassurance, they quoted “hospital policy” and then gave reasons that felt dismissive and inaccurate — for example, claiming that “too many people come in and out of rooms,” when in reality only one nurse completed paperwork, followed later by the surgeon and anaesthetist. I was also told I would be going to theatre “shortly,” even though I knew (correctly) that I would be waiting another 1.5 hours. My family member could easily have stayed with me during that entire period, as is standard in the Ulster Independent Clinic and in my previous NHS experiences. The lack of engagement from the pre-op nurse beyond basic paperwork questions made the situation feel even more uncomfortable. The pods themselves felt more like small, bare cells than a calming space prior to surgery — no TV, no artwork, just two chairs and a table. It was far from a soothing environment. In contrast, the theatre staff and post-op nurses were outstanding. They were friendly, proactive, and reassuring, and they made up for the negative pre-operative experience. One final issue: the staff arranging my discharge medication did not check my notes and prescribed a medication I am unable to take. Because the pharmacy had already closed, the only solution was to remove it from the prescription entirely.

An almost pleasant experience.. This was my second eye & much of the stress of the unknown before the previous op was now almost non-existent. All the staff were kind & patient, the chocolate machine quality was a delight, & the Uber staff & service faultless. And the driving conditions that day were foul. The result of both ops is miraculous, the best vision I can remember, the deterioration being so slow over an 83 yo healthy life one gets used to necessary adaption for daily living. Hence the pleasant shock of almost total renewal is delightful. I am very grateful to you(If you are Ruben, the surgeon who did both my ops so well) , Mr Saruban Pasu ? I was lucky in being given the choice of two names that day, & I specifically requested if possible Ruben, who did it, & I thanked him personally. We briefly spoke but he was dressed in green & I'm not good with faces re the photo. I was surprised by the change between the 2 ops of the new "dropless aftercare". This is so much easier for everyone. The pro cedure of a drop every 3 hours per day for 5 weeks with a spreadsheet gave me no confusion, but can understand the many pitfalls inherent for busier or more distracted patients & the possible bad results. The one injection, under the op anesthetic is really a win-win advance. I am now one week after, with wonderful results, almost totally clear & realigned to single focus.. I can see car number plates again, an essential for a driver ! (It was the Optician who persuaded me to have the first op as I was almost driving-illegal on the test). I took my daughter for a blood test today with Dr. Nimah Bholah, and we had an outstanding experience. My daughter has had difficult and painful blood draws in the past, so she was quite nervous. But Dr. Bholah was incredibly reassuring, gentle, and patient throughout the whole process. To our surprise, my daughter felt no pain or discomfort at all, it was the most relaxed she has ever been during a blood test. Dr. Bholah explained everything clearly, helped her feel at ease, and showed real care and professionalism. My daughter even said she would happily come back to see the same doctor again whenever she needs blood work. That alone says everything about the quality of care we received. Thank you, Dr. Bholah, for making what is usually a stressful experience into such a positive one. Truly exceptional service.

The reception was not particularly efficient. I’d paid for the consultation in advance but asked for payment. I did have to pay for blood tests & waited 25 minutes because the receptionist was unable to transfer the amount from the laptop to the card machine. The dryer in the first floor toilet was broken but no hand towels were provided to dry my hands. It was the same exactly a week earlier. I also received numerous text messages & emails most were repetitive & caused confusion as several arrived the same day. The saving grace was thankfully the clinical staff were friendly & efficient.

Today I came to the practice to visit Dr Andy Brown. I was initially quite nervous however every member of staff was so welcoming and comforting. Upon entering I was greeted by the front of house and offered a hot drink. The waiting room was soothing and I didn’t have to wait very long before the nurse called me in. I expressed my concerns and worries and Dr Andy talked me through all off them and really reassured me. He gave me options and explained them all thoroughly as well as giving me advice on what I need. I highly recommend going to him.

Patronising, no evidence had read prefilled questionnaire, or previous history. Despite personal discomfort I described, the only response was to leave things as they were, lack of initiative. Lack of empathy. I was asked to book an appt sooner rather than later which I did, and then during the appt I was told to leave things as they were for another couple of months. Very dissatisfied with the service.

Too often we do away with expectations relating to a physicians bedside manner which is a terrible shame. Medical prowess and emotional tact are possible and I feel lucky to under her care.
