Mr Matthew Cherko is a Consultant ENT Surgeon at the Royal Berkshire Hospital and a member of The ENT Consultancy team.
After graduating from King’s College London in 2009, Mr Cherko completed his surgical training across centres in the Thames Valley and London regions. He undertook a fellowship in thyroid and parathyroid surgery in Oxford and Berkshire, gaining a deep understanding of the regional thyroid network and benefiting from collaboration with both endocrine and ENT surgeons.
He then completed a prestigious fellowship in complex laryngology at the National Airway Reconstruction Centre, Charing Cross, London. Here, he gained extensive experience treating patients with a wide range of voice, swallowing, and breathing disorders, performing numerous surgical airway procedures and interventional clinic-based procedures. He works closely with allied professionals such as speech and swallow therapists.
Beyond his clinical work, Mr Cherko is passionate about medical education and training, particularly emergency simulation-based training, and serves on the faculty of national resuscitation courses. He has co-authored book chapters on thyroid and voice surgery and has served as the regional trainee research champion for national clinical studies in ENT.
Mr Cherko's specialist interests include disorders of voice, swallowing, and breathing, thyroid and parathyroid surgery, salivary gland surgery, and paediatric ENT.

Patients feel reassured and confident in his considered analysis and treatment plans. Adult Ear, Nose & Throat Surgery and Voice Problems are his main areas.
Mr Cherko is very professional with a lovely “bedside” manner. He takes time to explain test results, show you images and explain the procedure that is being proposed. Mr Cherko was recommended to me and I would have no hesitation in doing the same.
Mr Cherko is always considered in his analysis of my medical needs, I trust his judgement, and the decisions about my treatment always feel like a joint decision.
My boy was so worried after having developed tinnitus after a bad viral infection. GP told my son he needed ear wax removal but Mr Cherko told him that wasn’t the case, that he had fluid build up due to the cold and that it would be temporary. He provided a clear explanation, recommended treatment and made my boy feel reassured. Thank you so much. I won’t go anywhere else when it comes to ENT.
Mr Cherko was very professional and listened to everything I said and answered all my questions. I can also confirm that that medial issue was resolved by Mr Cherko :)
I had a follow-up appointment with Dr. Matthew Cherko, and I’m very pleased with the entire experience. The appointment started right on time, and Dr. Cherko took the time to clearly explain the issue I’ve been dealing with for the past 11 months. His ability to break things down in a way that’s easy to understand made me feel much more informed and reassured. He was extremely friendly, welcoming all my questions and providing thoughtful, helpful suggestions for the next steps in my treatment. I really appreciate that he scheduled a future follow-up to review progress after a period of treatment — it shows a strong commitment to patient care. I’m also very happy with how The Forbury Clinic is maintained. The environment is clean, calm, and professional, which adds a lot to the overall comfort of the visit. Thank you to Dr. Cherko and the team — keep up the great work!
