What is Stress Management?
Stress is felt when people are under too much mental or emotional pressure. Feelings of stress can manifest in physiological and psychological symptoms and affect how you think, behave, sleep and your body’s metabolism. People can experience headaches or muscle pain or have feelings of low self esteem and be irritable. The physiological symptoms of stress are caused by an increase in stress hormones normally involved in the flight-or-flight response. These hormone levels would normally subside once the perceived stress has passed but for people who are under stress often, these hormones remain in the body and can affect our body in many ways.
What are the causes for Stress?
Stress can be caused my many things but is often an inability to cope with mental or emotional pressure.
What are the symptoms of Stress?
Stress can affect your behavior and make you more irritable, anxious or cause you to have feelings of low self esteem. Physical manifestations of stress are headaches, muscle tension or pain and dizziness. Growing children who are under stress can have stunted growth. Stress can also cause high blood pressure.
How is Stress treated?
Many people have unhealthy ways of coping with stress including smoking and drinking alcohol. Healthier ways to cope with stress include exercise, giving yourself time to relax and being mindful. Mindfulness is a form of mediation proven to reduce stress and improve mood. It is also worth noting what things which cause you stress and how you go about improving your stress so you can see if you’re developing any unhealthy habits and adjust accordingly.
