What are Skin tags?

Skin tags are small, harmless, skin-like growths that may appear around skin creases as you age.

What causes skin tags?

Skin tags are a completely benign tumour of the skin which often grow where skin chafing occurs in folds. They occur more frequently in diabetics and obese patients.

What are the symptoms of Skin tags?

The only symptom of skin tags are the tags themselves. There are no associated symptoms or complications.

How are Skin tags treated?

Though they are technically classified as a type of tumour they are completely benign and do not require any treatment for physiological reasons. It is possible to remove skin tags by freezing or burning it under local anaesthetic, leaving the healthy tissue underneath intact. Skin tags are often removed for cosmetic reasons, if they chafe on clothing or jewellery, or if they are linked to anxieties or other psychological issues.
