This review is 4 years later than it should be, because I only today came across the scan code to do a review. 4 years or 40 years, I will never forget the magnificent Dr Gergana Peeva who delivered our second and final child for our family. I had a very traumatic experience when I was forced into an elective c section at another hospital with our first child, the choice to have a natural birth was taken from me despite my having no medical issues but because I was an older mum, the Dr strongly advised it and as I didn’t know any better, i made the mistake of listening to the Dr. It took me many years to recover from the traumatic c section when induction failed. So second time around, I chose Homerton Hospital as I read many good things on the Care Commission website. When my waters broke, I made it clear at the hospital I wanted to have a natural birth, the difference it the nurses and Dr’s listened to me this time and this really made all the difference to me both mentally and emotionally. After 2 days and much helpful, caring and understanding dialogue between the Dr’s and myself, I agreed to a c section. But this time it was my decision and it was because I understood natural birth was not progressing which was harmful to the baby. Dr Peeva took me aside and gently explained things and we went through my concerns. The nurse who assisted, I can’t remember her name due to the years that have passed, I think her name was Genesis, was also wonderful in her care towards me. I was open to all staff on my previous traumatic c- section at the other hospital and they were willing to listen and their empathy made my second birth, albeit a c section again as I had not wanted, a much better and happier overall experience. When Dr Peeva held up our baby following delivery and imitated the scene from the lion king, it has etched in my mind and memory with deep fondness for her. I can and will never forget the kindness, professionalism and simply goodness of Dr Peeva, a wonderful and amazing human being regardless of her profession.

I had done lot of research prior to my initial consultation, upon meeting Mr Hoo, I knew that Mr Hoo would be my surgeon of choice. Mr Hoo answered all of my questions, showed me before and after photos of previous surgeries and I felt reassured with my decision. I meet with Pauline (Mr Hoo’s nurse) who answered any further questions and discussed post operative restrictions etc with me. On the morning of the surgery, I met with Mr Hoo to answer any questions and complete markings. I was not nervous at all as I felt in very safe hands. Mr Hoo’s professionalism and caring nature was evident from the onset which I feel contributed to my calmness pre theatre. Mr Hoo came to see me post surgery and to answer any further questions. From my initial meeting I knew that I would be in safe hands, I would highly recommend Mr Hoo.

From the start, he took the time to properly listen to what had been going on, asked the right questions, and explained everything in a way that actually made sense. No rushing, no generic answers. What really stood out was how thorough and reassuring he was. He went through the scan results carefully, talked me through the options, and made sure I understood the pros and cons before moving forward. I left the appointment feeling informed and confident, not stressed or unsure. You can tell he genuinely cares about getting the right outcome for his patients. Professional, knowledgeable, and very approachable. I’d have no hesitation recommending him to anyone dealing with knee issues.

The administrative processes are not always easy to naviagate but the staff at the hospital are professional and helpful. Staff on reception seem well briefed on what information is needed from patients. Clinical staff - both on the wards and in the CT scanning teams were professional and reassuring. It would be useful - for people accompanying a patient for a procedure - to have some information about facilities available to them. I was at the hospital for 12 hours and the only way to get something to eat was to go out of the hopsital to buy it. It would have been helpful to have some catering available on site - if only by machine.

I saw Dr Pavlidis for a procedure required for an angiogram. It then required a more complex angioplasty due to total occlusion of my coronary artery. On both procedures, Dr Pavlidis was very professional, sincere and clear. He explained clearly what was involved and risks and then followed up with personally coming over after the procedure and explaining the post procedure status and next steps. He is straight forward approach and to the point was what I appreciated.

She has shown such care and kindness towards me and I felt very comfortable in her company and in her warm and welcoming practice. I was so happy with every aspect of my treatment at the Spire Alexandra hospital. Every member of staff was very professional and took great care of me. My knee has recovered very well and it has not been a bad experience at all. I was terrified before the operation but I was reassured by the anaesthetist that I would be fine. The consultant has done an amazing job on my knee.

I came to Barts for PFO closure with Dr Micheal Mullen and can not thank everyone at St Barts enough for their help, care and professionalism, from the moment I walked through the doors to the moment I left. Prompt, on time. Comfortable waiting area, convenient parking. Filling out the details on paper seemed a bit inefficient, couldn’t this be done online before the appointment and have paper as a back up? The on site pharmacy did not stock the prescribed medication, which was a little disappointing.
