I have had Cataract operations to both eyes January-March 2025. Things didn't start well when the Surgeon, in a 'telephone consultation' with me, committed to a price for the new lenses I would get. This was later overruled by the Management who told me the Surgeon didn't have the authority to agree a price with me. So I had to pay quite a bit more than I was originally told. As in some £400 per eye more. Amusing to observe how the 'care' (on the NHS, but sub-contracted to this private business) was promoted as being 'Exactly the same as Private Medical Care'. Oh no it wasn't ...it was much better. Once I was flagged up as 'potentially suitable for a PRIVATE operation' using Implants that were 'Not available on the NHS' I was treated very different. Previously done examinations were repeated 'to be sure'. Does that mean they are not sure if you are a NHS Patient? ;). Additional examinations 'not available on the NHS' were done. Am I being unfair? A short review would just say this: *Generally excellent professional friendly staff. * Medical care excellent. But.... Appointment waiting times need reviewing - I have always had to wait at least 45 min, sometimes more than on hour, before being seen. Why? If you depend on a relative or friend to drop you off and pick you up it sometimes got a bit difficult: Is this appointment going to take 30 Min, or 4 hours? Nobody knows. Admin/organization sometimes a bit confused - Why did I get an email survey for my right eye, and not for my left? Waiting in the corridor between different checks in different rooms a bit of a hit and miss - staff running around, folders being handed over, people sitting and waiting being missed, the order in which things were done got a bit confused sometimes, patients reminding passing nurses that others who arrived after them were seen before them. But all with good humor! But, in the end, I can see excellent again with both eyes - and that is what is really important.

The aftercare was equally impressive, with genuine attention to both mother and baby. Every member of staff went above and beyond, and nothing ever felt rushed. We are so grateful for the outstanding care we received and would highly recommend The Portland Hospital to anyone looking for exceptional maternity care in a calm, luxurious, and supportive environment.

I had my varicose vein scan with Louis and honestly couldn’t have asked for a better experience. From the start, he made me feel relaxed, comfortable, and confident that I was being properly looked after. Louis explained everything in a really easy-to-understand way and talked me through the scan as it was happening, which helped put me completely at ease. The ultrasound was very thorough, and it was clear he really knows what he’s doing, nothing felt rushed, and he took his time to check everything properly. What I appreciated most was how calm and reassuring Louis was throughout the appointment. He made sure I understood what was going on, what the scan showed, and what the next steps might be, without using complicated medical language or making it feel overwhelming. The whole appointment felt professional but friendly, and I left feeling informed, reassured, and confident in the advice I was given. Zack treated my son for deep verrucas caused by swimming, and I honestly couldn’t be happier with the care we received. The diagnosis and treatment were done in the same appointment, and everything was handled with so much care and professionalism. My son is 9 years old and was understandably nervous, but Zack was fantastic at keeping him calm, confident, and engaged throughout the treatment. He was reassuring, patient, and made the whole experience far less daunting. The treatment itself was quick and very well managed. We went back for a follow-up today and were given the all-clear, along with a top-up treatment to remove any remaining dead skin and ensure nothing was left behind. Zack explained everything clearly to both my son and me, which really empowered us and reassured us that this was the best course of action. Zack was excellent — funny, caring, and professional — exactly what you want, especially when treating a young child. I would highly recommend him without hesitation.

Since having a cystectomy back in 2023 and being discharged from another hospital, my periods were terribly painful lasting 16+ days causing me a lot pain and some days I felt I was unable to cope, I was often cancelling on plans and having to bin clothing due to the heaviness of my periods. I often felt down due to the pain and felt stuck after being told by another hospital my pain was down to “exam stress” Miss Ghosh believed my pain and investigated with multiple MRI tests, blood tests and ultrasounds I then got diagnosed with Adenomyosis. Miss Ghosh also removed me of the contraceptive patch and changed me over to the mirena coil which has changed my periods. They are now much lighter and do not last any longer than one week and are much more manageable. Miss Ghosh explained thoroughly the benefits of the coil and how if anything changes I can contact her. Thank you Miss Ghosh, you have made a massive impact to me and I am very appreciative. I would highly recommend Miss Ghosh!

I have been under Mr Rudol’s care for the last 9 weeks , following an MRI that revealed I required spinal surgery . This came as a great shock as it was such an acute event . Mr Rudol took time to talk me through my imaging , showed me exactly where the issue was , what the surgery entailed and recovery time . Mr Rudol kindly and eloquently discussed risks , expectations and really eased the process and fear of the surgery, he encouraged questions from myself and my partner and answered with detail and honesty. My surgery was a success and the after care has been as compassionate and professional as my pre operative journey .

Mr Bagley stepped in after my previous consultant refused to attend. He hastily but professionally conducted my initial and confirmation appointments together and agreed to proceed with the planned surgery. I was very relieved. The surgery went well and all the staff involved were friendly and professional. I developed an infection after and had to see Mr Bagley twice but I was prescribed antibiotics and it cleared. At every step of the process Mr Bagley was professional and explained everything. I would definitely recommend him.

I have recently completely recovered from a hip replacement operation and found the experience excellent from the original consultation to the successful recovery . My expectations were exceeded in every way from being able to complete my first steps 5 hours after surgery and being discharged from hospital within 24 hours. To achieving daily improvements in mobility, good sleep and little pain discomfort with no use of crutches around week 6. And all I have to show for it is a 4 inch scar! Many thanks Mr. Sturridge

I fell in August and damaged both shoulders - although everyone that I have dealt with both over the phone and face to face have been both efficient and warmly friendly I will not receive treatment until February (7 months after my accident). During this time I have been in excruciating pain and living alone has only added to my depression! I would have hoped that my personal situation would have been taken into “some” consideration in order to ease my pain in some small way.

My experience during my visit for day surgery was very good overall. The nurses and physiotherapist were young but capable. The anaesthetists were very helpful both before and after my operation. The surgeon was brisk and efficient. I was perhaps a little surprised that he didn't come to see me after the operation. The quality of the snack I was offered after the operation was poor: crisps and a sandwich with stodgy bread. Hardly nutritious recovery food!
