Admin efficiency Things didn't get off to a great start when there seemed to be an issue regarding what my insurance would cover, even though I had received two confirmations from the insurer over the phone and one confirmation by email. I felt a bit like a criminal and that I was lying about the treatment being covered. In the end, the insurer had to phone Practice Plus direct to sort it out, because no-one would believe that I was telling the truth. I've never come across this problem before at the Spire or the Nuffield. Usually the admin trail works very smoothly. Cleanliness The carpet in the waiting area is dirty and is covered in tea/coffee stains. There were pubic hairs on the toilet seat in one of the toilets by the waiting area. Not great at all. Waiting Time I am a private patient and I usually use the Spire in Bristol or the Nuffield, which run to time. My appointment for an injection was 30minutes late. Unacceptable. Staff To be fair, some of the staff are lovely. But some of the staff are downright rude. When I went to speak to one of the receptionists after waiting for my appointment for over 20minutes, I simply asked to check that I was on the system. The answer "yes". Oh I said, it's just that I haven't been called yet. Is there a delay? The answer "yes" - and a roll of the eyes to say "yes and your problem with that is??" I have to have another appointment at some point, so let's hope that my next experience is better.

After I had my procedure and was in the room, I needed to use the toilet, but I was hooked up to a catheter. Therefore, I could not go unaided. I needed to use the toilet for a poo and was desperate to go. I used the call button and told the nurse, who said they would come back. I was left for 4 hours in agony. I was really anxious as I had been told I was not to strain, and I was doing all I could to not mess myself. This left me really upset and agitated. I did not feel cared for at that time. The breakfast was very poor and not at all palatable. The fact that you could not get in the lift without someone tapping you in is ridiculous, as you then have to search for someone to assist. Also, when I subsequently came back for my catheter removal. There were no disabled parking spaces at the front, so I had to come in the back. I was told I needed to go to the ward. So I made my way to the lift and was very dizzy and weak. My wife left me at the lift to go to the front to sign me in, and the receptionist could not have been more unhelpful and stroppy. My wife then took me up in the lift, only to be told that they would not see me until she had gone back down to the reception. The other receptionist then signed me in and was pleasant, unlike the other receptionist. Sadly, small things let you down. But when you are a patient, you feel very vulnerable, and the lack of professionalism from a member of the team makes a big impact.

Ms Jajini Varghese

I don’t even know where to begin, because Ms Jajini Varghese was with me at both the lowest and most hopeful points of my life. She was the one who delivered devastating news — and yet she did so with honesty, warmth and humanity. She held my hand, hugged me, spoke to me as a woman, not just a patient. She never sugar-coated, but she always gave me hope. I had a single mastectomy through the NHS, and from the very beginning she was open about expectations while still doing everything she could for the best possible outcome. She told me she would try to save my nipple — and she did. I came out of surgery with excellent symmetry, far beyond what I had been prepared for. At my final check-up (seen by another consultant), he examined me and said he struggled to see which breast had been reconstructed. When he asked who my surgeon was and I told him, his response was simply: “You were operated on by the best.” What stands out most is not just her exceptional surgical skill, but who she is as a person. She is real, warm, relatable .A woman’s woman. She spoke openly, shared human moments, and made me feel brave when I didn’t feel brave at all. If you are facing breast cancer and reconstruction and are scared, I hope you read this and know that you can place your trust in this incredible NHS surgeon. I will forever be grateful.

This was my first colonoscopy procedure so I didn’t know what to expect and was quite anxious. Looking at the patient reviews on this site beforehand really helped me so I wanted to add my own comments here as well. The 2 day preparation for my late afternoon procedure (fasting and drinking the cleansing medication) was actually the worst part, however I followed the instructions and kept myself very hydrated throughout, that along with a couple of boiled sweets in the last couple of hours to stop the hunger pangs really helped. The clinic staff were all really friendly and helpful from the moment I arrived and talked me through the process throughout so I knew what to expect. I had sedation for the procedure itself which was completely painless, and I got the results quickly. At all times my wellbeing was prioritised by the staff, with 1 to 1 nursing and a very welcome drink and biscuit afterwards. Special thanks from me to Roberta and Dr Khan, and my aftercare nurse whose name I forgot (sorry!)

My daughter has been seeing a physiotherapist since she was a toddler and has carried on once we moved from London. Her physiotherapist in Central Bedfordshire requested that we have a consultation with Dr Verma and his team in 2023. We had a meeting with the physiotherapist, Dr Verma and his team to review what could be done to help my daughter. Her feet were turned in, her legs were turned in and her hips are turned in. We decided that we would correct the right foot first, then we would move on to the left foot and then when she is in her late teens her hips. We have been fully informed of the procedures and the recovery time throughout the process. After having the right food done, we can see that when my daughter walks her leg is actually straight. So, we are hoping that after she has her physio on her left foot the same will happen. This will help her a great deal especially with her posture and being able to do things a peer her age would be able to do.

Both myself and my daughter have been patients of Dr Bakshi for over a year and he has helped us hugely. Recently my 18 month old was suffering from back to back viruses and worsening rashes. I contacted Dr Bakshi in desperation just before Christmas as the treatment advice from the GP was not working, and it was looking like we would be unable to travel and see family while she was so unwell. Dr Bakshi identified 2 types of skin infection and was able to advise the correct regimen of creams to use, and we were able to see our family at Christmas. Thank you so much for your kindness and empathy, and for always going above and beyond. I wholeheartedly recommend Dr Bakshi for both adults and children; he is one of the kindest and most helpful and knowledgeable consultants I have come across, and his secretary Rahul is also lovely and very responsive and helpful.

I had done lot of research prior to my initial consultation, upon meeting Mr Hoo, I knew that Mr Hoo would be my surgeon of choice. Mr Hoo answered all of my questions, showed me before and after photos of previous surgeries and I felt reassured with my decision. I meet with Pauline (Mr Hoo’s nurse) who answered any further questions and discussed post operative restrictions etc with me. On the morning of the surgery, I met with Mr Hoo to answer any questions and complete markings. I was not nervous at all as I felt in very safe hands. Mr Hoo’s professionalism and caring nature was evident from the onset which I feel contributed to my calmness pre theatre. Mr Hoo came to see me post surgery and to answer any further questions. From my initial meeting I knew that I would be in safe hands, I would highly recommend Mr Hoo.

I had LASIK surgery with Allon Barsam yesterday, and I couldn’t be happier with the results. My vision feels unbelievably clear, almost like seeing through the eyes of a superhero. Allon guided me through every step of the procedure as it was happening, which made the entire experience feel calm, safe, and reassuring. The surgery was genuinely painless; there was one brief moment of discomfort that lasted no more than 10 seconds, and he calmly counted down the seconds so I knew exactly what to expect. My eyes stung a little afterwards, but after a short nap I woke up feeling completely fine. If you’re considering laser eye surgery, I can’t recommend it highly enough. It was one of the best decisions I’ve ever made. Thank you so much to Allon and the team at OCL.

The staff were incredibly helpful, understanding and supportive. I explained my concern and was given an urgent appointment. Vanessa S is the perfect person for her role and puts people at ease immediately. She secured me a hearing test and a consultation appointment on the same day. She also helped me with some of the administrative elements of using my private healthcare as the process has changed since I last used it. Very helpful, friendly, professional and reassuring. I was greeted on arrival, immediately shown to the waiting area and taken straight through to my first appointment, even though I was a few minutes early. Cannot fault the service I received and the care and professionalism was consistent throughout.

Hospital was lovely, clean and spotless and the day was well organised. Superb care from Dr Spalding, Nick Gilfillan, Neil (recovery nurse) and Emily (nurse from HCA) in particular. Facilities were great and check-in / admin was v smooth. From check in to check out I saw three different teams; nurses were very friendly and helpful although there was some confusion on instructions for the next few weeks (what to do what not to do). Physio Jess was excellent and kindly waited to see me after the end of her shift so I'd had something to eat (food had been delayed as there was some confusion as to whether I'd been out of of surgery or not). On the whole, brilliantly looked after.

On arrival the receptionist was really friendly. I checked my details then went for to see the consultant Mr Sherif (not sure on spelling) he was efficient and professional and his nurse was really friendly. Then the mammogram with a really lovely technician. She was friendly and gentle and told me what she was doing each and every step. Then a short wait of about 10 minutes and off to the ultrasound which was carried out by friendly and professional staff. Then my final stop back to see the consultant “the Sherif” ! Where he delivered the good news followed by some advice. What a super friendly and efficient service! Can’t fault it Xx

I had a private GP appointment with Dr Bordbar for an ultrasound-guided joint injection, and the experience was outstanding from beginning to end. The procedure was completely painless, which was a huge relief. The clinic was calm, comfortable, and immaculately clean, creating a very reassuring environment. Dr Bordbar was highly professional, took the time to explain each step clearly, and made me feel at ease throughout the appointment. I felt genuinely well cared for and confident in the treatment I received. I would highly recommend this service to anyone considering a joint injection.

No problems with check in or with the meeting with Mr Krkovic. However the hospital is showing signs of neglect. The loo in the corridor outside Trinity Suite had no paper towels and and a completely overflowed waste bin. The coffee machine in Trinity was broken in October and is still broken in January. The former quite serious, the latter not serious but to be not fixed over so many months suggests neglect and that always raises the possibility that things I can't see are also neglected. SIte management needs shake-up.

I had an online meeting with Gayle which was really helpful, much more relaxed than expected whilst including an in-depth exploration of my test results, health issues, and their timeline and effects on my life. Gayle is polite, respectful, understanding, and easy to talk to, as well as thorough and interested to understand and create a full picture. She’s very knowledgeable in a range of areas and made various links between results and possible causes. I look forward to continuing my health improvement with her support.

I am a new patient at No.1 Hatfield and my recent visit was to the physioloy department in relation to an ankle problem. The physiologist was kind and easy to talk to and clearly explained the prolem I have to me and gave me a routine of exercises to perform with a follow up appointment to attend in a fortnght's time, this being part of a booked 6 week course. My daughter who came with me and I were very pleased with appointment experience and would recommend the hospital to anyone who might ask about it.

Staff were extremely kind and helped me with my anxiety. I was so worried and all of the staff calmed me and explained clearly what would be happening. They treated me with respect and were proffessional at all times. There were no times during any visit that I felt awkward to ask for anything, or to ask questions. I could not of asked for a better service and I would like to thank all of the staff involved in my pre procedure and aftercare. Thank you all so much
