I had a total hip replacement about 6 months ago after years of pain and stiffness in my hip joint. As I am only in my late 40s I was reluctant to get it replaced at a relatively young age. Since the procedure I have felt like a different person and the pain that I had went immediately after the operation. I have just had a routine 6 month checkup with Mr Malek and the hip has healed nicely. I chose Mr Malek due to his experience with minimal evasive hip surgery and from the initial consultation through to the operation and aftercare I have been highly impressed with the overall process and his work. He is very approchable and helpful and made me feel I was in good hands. Furthermore, there has been little damage to the affected area which has allowed me to recover very quickly. Eventually I will need my other hip replacing and I will be returning to Mr Malek for this procedure to.

Dr Ryan treated me with a lot of respect, although my symptoms were not life threatening, he listened to me and took my complaints seriously. When I had the surgery under his supervision, the procedure and recovery process and next steps were explained to me very clearly. I knew exactly what the surgeons were doing to me and what the benefit and also risks of having the surgery was. On a personal level I really appreciated how comfortable he made me feel throughout the entire process. Also today when I had my post op check up (months after the surgery, later than ideal, but not his fault at all!) he remembered me and seemed genuinely invested in me as a person which isn't something I was expecting, given how many patients he must see! If you are reading this Doctor Cheong then I wish you all the best! :)

My experience of the hospital was very good. The staff were amazing especially Jayne on Day surgery and David at the ward at night. The only downside that came to my attention is being told that there was no lactose free milk for my tea. The lady, I did catch her name, told me that she wasn’t aware of my overnight stay. She asked me if I was aware that I was staying overnight and I replied ‘yes’. She then went on to ask if I had put it in my forms prior to attending and I said yes. She kept on going on it wasn’t her fault she had been told. A bit of advice would be that she overshared. She clearly sorted the problem as the following morning someone had picked up the milk and I had it with my tea.

Sarah is a super friendly and helpful physiotherapist. She designs my plan, demonstrating and then watching me do the exercises to ensure I am doing them correctly. She also determines the correct weight for each exercise which I would not have had any idea about. My lower back sciatic type pain is improving as is my strength. The MoveHealth App is excellent and I can log my progress there and see videos of each exercise to check between reviews I am doing them correctly. The location is perfect for me and each review session has been helpful for my progress. There is no pressure to have a review - only when it seems appropriate. Very happy and grateful for Sarah's expertise and guidance.

He has empathy and a clear passion for helping women achieve better health. He liaises with your NHS surgery and your health insurer for a smooth overall service. Staff very friendly and nice facilities. However, my experience booking an appointment was frustrating. The consultant’s PA insisted that I go to GenesisCare for the ultrasound but then booked my appointment on a day where the technician was on annual leave, so I had to make an extra visit. I was unhappy to need a second visit just for ultrasound - the consultant’s PA insisted that I see the consultant at GenesisCare, which is less convenient location. but booked my appointment on a day where the technician was on annual leave.

Mr Karuppaiah and his secretary, Hagar, were extremely helpful in getting my hand fixed up before my exams. As soon as I mentioned that I had exams, they did everything they could to expedite the process for me. I am immensely grateful for their help and kindness. Mr Karuppaiah was thorough in determining the cause of my pain and was gentle when administering the steroid injection. It is obvious that he is very experienced and an expert in his field! His team have consistently been supportive, responsive and happy to help.

Only issue I would have is lack of patient parking at Mount Alvernia, and this is a particular issue when struggling with mobility!
