I did have to wait a while before I was seen, maybe 30 minutes or so, but all the staff were wonderful, caring and reassuring all the way through to being cared for after the procedure. However I feel that the consultant over sprayed the anaesthetic in my throat, he sprayed about 3-4 squirts in my throat, stood back for a moment then sprayed another 3-4 squirts, some of which ended up going into the back of my nasal passages at the back of my throat which gave me a terrible burning sensation in the back of my nasal passages. Maybe this amount is normal, but having had the procedure at another establishment some years earlier, I had no such experience, again I found that there was so much mucus in my throat from the anaesthetic after the procedure that I found myself gagging on the mucus and I was coughing loads of it up into tissues the nurse had to provide me with. Plus I was unable to swallow properly for what seemed like ages. But over all, the staff were wonderful and very caring, but if I need this again, after this experience, I think I would prefer to be sedated.

I really cannot speak highly enough of Mr James Smith. Twice now he has given me life back. Whilst that may sound dramatic, it really is not. I had been so limited by my arthritis in my right knee for 30+ years , he operated and now I can do everything I could not do before. I had my other knee replaced (by a different surgeon in a different hospital) and recovery did not go well. I went to Mr Smith asking if he would do an MUA which he kindly agreed to and he has worked his magic again. From being in intense pain with hardly any movement, I am now well on my way to normal movement again and it’s only been 2 months. Mr Smith is so friendly, he is kind and genuinely cares for his patients. He explains things so you can understand and never makes you feel rushed if you have any questions. All of his team adopt the same approach to you as he does and they make you feel like their most important patient. If you have Mr Smith as your surgeon, you are in the very best hands

We feel so fortunate to have been able to have our daughter delivered at the Portland Hospital. Our room, the food, the care, everything was exceptional. Most of all we are grateful to the incredible midwives, who looked after us with such warmth and patience. We felt so safe in the knowledge that one of these incredible women was there around the clock to look after us and guide us through the early days and hours of our journey into parenthood. The various healthcare professionals (paediatrician, physio, lactation consultant, pharmacist) as well as the registrar who came to see us were all exceptional individuals too and it was incredibly helpful to be seen by all of them during our hospital stay. A special thank you goes to Pat, our amazing midwife, who accompanied us on the day of our birth. We couldn’t have asked for a more wonderful midwife to be with us on this incredible journey.

I felt emotional after seeing Mr Emmanuel. After a long time of not feeling heard in relation to my endometriosis and persistent visits to the hospital, trips to A&E in severe pain and being put on morphine - then leaving with no answers or idea of a forward plan to find out what was going on, as well as many discussions with my GP over the last couple of years in relation to the same. He was incredibly attentive, listened to my symptoms and explained what he thought might be happening in simple terms that were easy for me to understand. I left feeling so validated and hopeful that I am now on track to knowing what my diagnosis is and may be able to get the treatment that is needed.

I had hip replacement surgery, my admission and pre surgery checks were done professionally and very courteously. The surgery team made me feel relaxed (I was very nervous) and they treated me with care and respect before, during and after the operation. Overnight, the medical staff checked on me regularly, were very supportive and helped with pain management and looking after my comfort Throughout my stay the service staff were very attentive and looked after me, catering for my needs. Overall, I feel I was looked after as an individual and my needs taken care of.

Thursday afternoon visit, the surgery did not adjust to be that busy, arrived before my appointment time but still had to wait till after my scheduled time before being seen. Cat was blocked in when I be wanted to leave and I requested for the owner to move their vehicle as I had other engagements scheduled. No sense of urgency amongst the staff it appreciation that my time is as valuable as theirs. Managed to manoeuvre my car out whilst waiting so impact was not as bad as if I had waited for the other to move their vehicle but it was irritating.

Dr Farrah's team were amazing from start to finish with helping me to schedule my appointments and with helping me with my insurance company queries. Dr Farrah is wonderful, she listened to me and all the issues and pain I was having due to my osteoarthritis in my hip, made me feel like I wasn't being silly and over reacting with the pain I was in. Both procedures were done in no time at all and I am finally pain free after being pain for 3 years and on numerous painkillers and physio appointments ! Thank you Dr Farrah and your amazing team.

I went to Mr Elmiyeh as I was experiencing crustiness and discomfort in my nose. Mr Elmiyeh was thorough, descriptive and very informative. He also suggested I use a saline rinse instead of prescribing more antibiotics which I didn't want to keep using. He followed up with a detailed examination (which revealed that everything was normal) and gave me the knowledge I needed to monitor the situation going forward. Highly recommend Mr Elmiyeh as he is super friendly, professional and thorough.

Once inside the building I was greeted promptly by the receptionist who was approachable and friendly. Wait time was a little longer than expected but staff did advise of this. Otherwise a very positive consultation experience. Being new to the hospital site, it wasn’t easy to locate SPH as signage tailed away aster the first o two. Car parking was poor - no spaces available on arrival and no indication given of alternatives.

Doctor de Ramon had the foresight in referring me to see a cardiologist when it was suspected I had a possible laryngeal obstruction. Her decision to involve cardiology proved pivotal. Tests have since confirmed I have significant coronary disease, and I’m now under active management for this condition. It’s quite possible her instincts saved my life, and I’m deeply grateful.
