I saw Mr Chahal yesterday after struggling with ankle problems since pregnancy, and more recently suffering two injuries that have caused my ankle to give way without warning. The pain and swelling have become overwhelming, especially from midday into the evening, and I finally knew it was time to seek help. From the moment I met Mr Chahal, I felt completely at ease. He was incredibly kind, calm, and transparent, taking the time to explain his thoughts clearly and compassionately. There was absolutely no pressure to make any decisions, and as someone who struggles with anxiety, this meant more to me than I can put into words. He explained possible causes and treatment options in a way that was reassuring rather than alarming, and I never once felt panicked. Sadly, some consultants can make you feel as though you’re being dramatic or exaggerating your symptoms, but Mr Chahal was the complete opposite. There was no judgement, only understanding, respect, and genuine care. I felt truly listened to, and that alone was incredibly comforting. Mr Chahal is everything you would hope for in a consultant. Calming, honest, professional, and extremely knowledgeable. He has a quiet confidence that immediately builds trust, and it’s clear he is an expert in his field. I left my appointment feeling hopeful, supported, and reassured that I am finally in the right hands. Thank you so much, Mr Chahal. I had a very good experience with Visio Health when I had recent laser treatment following cataract surgery on both eyes with Ms Sandhu. The cataract surgery, which took place in hospital in July and October, has been very successful. I no longer need glasses after having vision corrective lenses. And I hadn’t realised quite how blurred and sepia my sight had become. My vision is now very clear and bright. It really has positively impacted my life. Everything looks like it did back when I was young. It’s so much more cheerful than that blurry, yellow sight that I had grown so used to. And I am so much more confident when driving. No more night glare. I was really apprehensive and anxious about cataract surgery. So much so that it was decided that I would have the procedure under general anaesthetic. But I can honestly say that despite all the worry the end result is better than I could have imagined. The laser treatment at Visio to improve my sight further with one session of laser treatment was totally painless, very straightforward and uncomplicated. The clinic was very well organised and the staff were all lovely. A very good experience.

Mr Daniel Dowen

On admission to Sunderland Royal Hospital in February 2025 I was placed in the care of Mr. Dowen. I was in very severe pain in my right leg after a fall at home in November 2024. Despite earlier hospitalisation I had had 16 weeks without any alleviation of the pain. The care I received from Mr Dowen and his whole team was second to none. I couldn’t have been in better hands. Within a very few days Mr Dowen carried out a very complex operation which was followed by 48 hours in Intensive Care and I was soon totally without pain. The bedside manners of Mr Dowen and his team were excellent. All procedures were explained to me before they were carried out. Although they were all busy people they made me feel that they had all the time in the world for me. The aftercare I received on discharge was just as good with several outpatient visits arranged, mainly with Mr Dowen himself, so that he could keep tabs on my progress. I honestly don’t think I could have had any better care and will always be very grateful for the treatment I received.

The appointment was thorough, reassuring, and clearly focused on ensuring my recovery is progressing as expected. Mr Matar reviewed my symptoms, mobility, wound healing, and overall progress in detail. He explained each aspect of the recovery process in a clear and understandable way, taking the time to answer all questions without rushing. His manner was calm, professional, and supportive, which made it easy to discuss any concerns. He assessed the surgical site carefully and confirmed that healing is on track. He also outlined the next steps in my rehabilitation, including what activities I can safely resume, what to avoid, and what signs to monitor as I continue to recover. The guidance was practical and tailored to my situation. Overall, the review was extremely positive. I left the appointment feeling confident about my recovery plan and grateful for the high standard of care provided by Mr Matar and his team.

Mr Northeast examined my condition at the initial appointment and confirmed that I needed umbilical hernia repair surgery. He explained what the procedure would entail and how my day to day life would be impacted for 4 to 6 weeks after the operation. He also answered all the questions I had about the procedure. He sought the requisite funding for my operation and kept myself and my GP updated on progress. I was fortunate to obtain a cancellation and so my operation date was sooner than I had anticipated. The operation went smoothly and I had very little pain or discomfort following the operation. I subsequently returned to see Mr Northeast approximately 4 weeks after the operation where he examined me and advised me the operation had been a complete success and advised me what I should avoid doing until the full 6 weeks post operation period was complete. Overall I was very pleased with the entire experience and grateful for his expertise.

From the moment I arrived, the staff were absolutely lovely, welcoming, and professional, which instantly put me at ease. The whole appointment felt calm and well organised, with no rushing at all. Dr Owen Weeks was fantastic — very kind, reassuring, and took the time to listen properly. He explained everything clearly, answered all my questions, and made me feel genuinely comfortable and cared for. It was such a refreshing experience compared to feeling rushed elsewhere. Overall, it was a great doctor’s appointment and well worth going private. I left feeling reassured and confident, and I would highly recommend this service to anyone considering it. After the first right eye cataract removal Mazen Tahhan gave me his telephone number and said to call him if I had a problem. I am a very keen insect photographer and found with the distance lens I could not see the camera screen clearly. I became worried about the impact on my ability to focus close up on insects. About 8 p.m. I sent him a text briefly outlining my concerns . He called me back immediately and listened carefully. I was even considering other options than the NHS lens and he kindly sent details of these. However he advised me to I stay with a close-up NHS lens to get as much light into the eye as possible. I followed his advice and am very pleased and very satisfied with the result. Sabina George

I was treated extremely kindly and it made such a difference. Everyone who works there deserves a massive thank you. I didn’t feel judged, not once. Respectful, polite and friendly and very, very prepared. I felt that I was in safe hands and I really appreciated all the security protocols. My only suggestion to make things even better, would be to have an indoor waiting area available for clients who are asked to arrive at 7am. It was not much fun waiting in the dark, in the rain, in the cold to be let in for 20 odd minutes. But as soon as that hurdle was overcome, everything went so well and a lot of that was because of the efforts of the team. They’re great. I really loved my sandwich too!

Steve is excellent. Personable and very professional and clearly knows his stuff. He operated on our son following a shoulder dislocation playing rugby. Throughout the process, Steve was clear with the surgical options and very thorough in his explanations, particularly understanding with the emotions of a teenager and his desperation to be back on the pitch again. He has a friendly manner and was always quick to answer extra questions we had between consultations. He did an excellent surgical job on our son and we’d have no hesitation in recommending him. Once I arrived on the day of my surgery, the nurses were great in making sure I was fully prepared. The only questionable experience I had was that the physio who visited me before the surgery caused some confusion, as the exercises she showed me to do during the first three weeks were not what Prof. Field had said. Also it seemed odd that the physio visited me before the surgery, rather than after. Hence I ended up staying the night and saw Yannis, a different physio, the following morning, who was incredibly helpful. However, the experience overall was great, and Prof. Field and Dr Hussain, along with the day and night nurses, made me feel very comfortable and looked after me well.

I had a letter requesting me to attend an outpatients apointment for cardiology. I was unsure why and obviously I was very concerned and worried when attending the appointment. Dr Cassar was very professional and explained everything very clearly. I was not felt to feel foolish about asking questions and every question was answered in detail. I was given very good advice about nutrition and living a healthy life. I went in with trepidation but came out of the appointment extremely happy that everything had been clearly explained and my concerns had been treated with clarity in a friendly, professional manner. Mr cockshott as previous visits, comes out to greet you , smiling , uses your name and a hand shake. He explained the xray after my op in detail & asked if i had any questions I had a couple about rehab etc inline with my hobbies , which he gave an honest , open & helpful reply . He examined my knee and was very happy with it - as was I. At our first meeting i explained i’m dyslexic & neurodivergent & often dont understand correctly what i’m being told. He actively listened & checked in with me at the start & end of each meeting. When i didn’t understand i told him & he found a way to explain it to me so i did understand. I never felt rushed or judged.

My operation was 3.5 months ago, my check up appointment was supposed to be 4-6 weeks after. This got postponed 4/5 times due to apparent emergency surgery that was known a week in advance each time. I rang and spoke to the surgeons secretary when it was postponed again and I couldnt make the new date due to work, it kept getting postponed and explained I was having problems ( wound opening multiple times and infection ) I was told to leave work, I explained i couldn't due to my job and working away on that date over two weeks, she said we'll if you don't want the new date then don't have it. She was very rude and tone was awful.

Consultant wanted to know whether I was glad I had the hip replacement, had it made a difference, and I confirmed it had as I no longer had the pain that side and had more flexibility. He checked the scar and said to massage this now. I explained was having problems with my other hip but he said as not on regular pain killers they would not consider surgery as yet. He said he would see me again in 6 months but this could be brought forward or pushed back depending on how I am. I was very happy with this flexibility and with my consultation.
