The whole family's concerns were addressed but at the centre was the patient and her concerns a truly exemplary consultation in every way. To take a case that had long been beyond the reach of NHS dogma; to deconstruct it and then elementally re-combine the components around a single evidence backed core explanation, was an absolute object lesson in how academic and free-thinking medicine can be conducted to the benefit of the patient, their family and support networks. This consultation was a masterclass in common sense practice triumphing over outdated concepts and barriers in thinking.
