I was referred to the Horder Centre for hip surgery as an NHS patient and the difference between that experience and my experiences in NHS hospitals couldn't have been more different. As it turned out, I also had two brief stays in an NHS hospital at around the same time, and experiencing a busy trauma ward in the Royal Victoria hospital in Brighton was pretty terrible. Unusually, I ended up having to have two operations in Crowborough on the same hip, so I was there for several days in all, and though no one really wants to be in hospital they do make every effort to make your stay as comfortable as possible. You get a single room with a TV (Freeview) and your own en-suite bathroom and fresh towels are brought every day. For a start, the staffing levels were brilliant. Someone was always on hand if I needed pain relief or anything else for that mattter. For every staff shiftI was allocated a care worker and a nurse, all of whom were absolutely lovely. They will help you with anything including a bed-wash or shower and if you have any questions they can't answer themselves they will find someone who can. I was regularly offered pain medication and if I felt I needed some in between rounds I had only to ring the bell beside my bed and I was usually able to have it. The food is good and plentiful and the menu choices provide plenty of variety. The staff who bring round the food as well as a trolley offering hot drinks or fruit juice are cheerful and friendly as well as punctual. Even the housekeeping staff were lovely. Although I'm sure all the staff were busy (for example, the care assistants take care of 6 patients on each shift), no one ever seemed to be under too much pressure and they always had time for a chat. They will arrange transport two and from the hospital if you need it, whether in an ambulance or by car, and even the drivers love working there. Some of the staff I met have worked there for many years, which speaks for itself. If I were referred to the Horder Centre rather than an NHS hospital or further surgery at any point I would feel confident that I would be well taken care of.

Paul's first-hand experience with hamstring repair surgery facilitated knowledgeable discussion and a balanced assessment of available options. I found him to be both approachable and professional, and appreciated his team's co-ordination of a related MRI scan and follow-up appointment for imaging review. I would recommend consulting with Mr. Culpan for hamstring trauma & repair.

This was the second time I visited Dr. Davies (the first time was just after I gave birth and the second time was after I ended breastfeeding) and I was 120% satisfied with both visit. His knowledge about the change of women body after the birth is impeccable. He understood the struggles and concerns new mums would face and provided personalised advice which made me feel reassured and help me to regain my health confidence back. I will definitely go back to him in future as necessary. All staff including the receptionist and clinical assistants are friendly and professional too.

Claire was engaging, caring, easy to talk to and thorough in her questions of my medical history and checking of my joints; recommending bloods and an MRI which were quickly arranged. We talked over the results and I am now getting further treatment to solve the issue. I’m really glad I was referred to Claire and wouldn’t hesitate to go again if I had any further rheumatic-related problems.

It's a rollercoaster. It's not easy and you can expect to be up and down constantly within each day but you have to remember why you are here and embrace your chance to recover. Be where you are meant to be on time, be open minded but filter out issues that you not yours . Don't expect the timetable to always be correct. Food is not great and everyone's feelings, behaviours and attitudes fluctuate. Be honest with yourself and others. Learn to stay calm, be considerate and kind.

This is an excellent hospital that I feel fortunate to be able to attend. The overall environment is comfortable, pleasant and relaxing. All staff encountered including Reception, Nursing and Pharmacy are very professional, polite, efficient and considerate. The lady I encountered on Reception on my recent visit went out of her way to make pleasant conversation, despite being busy. My son who usually accompanies me normally finds disabled parking which he requires.

Very efficient, clean and high standard as expected. As an aside, I really did appreciate the way the receptionist wrote my date of birth on a piece of paper and asked me quietly if it was correct. I intensely dislike the way receptionists in surgeries etc shout out so loudly, "DATE OF BIRTH??" in public. No discretion or politeness anywhere as a rule. More importantly, perhaps, the doctor was very helpful, efficient and very kind.. Thank you.

Dr. Stewart McLean is absolutely brilliant at what he does. He’s clear, thorough and takes time to explain each step, setting expectations and timeframes realistically. He’s also incredibly supportive of his assistants and creates a calm, professional environment. Over the years he’s handled my Invisalign, composite bonding and, most recently, a root canal, all with excellent results. I travel two hours to see him, and it’s well worth it.
