I received my care at the Spire Regency Hospital in Macclesfield following a unicompartmental knee replacement in November 2025, and the standard of care throughout was excellent. From recovery through to the ward, the post-operative care was consistently compassionate, professional, and attentive. Every member of staff I encountered — from nursing and medical staff to healthcare assistants, physiotherapists, and catering staff — was kind, supportive, and clearly committed to patient wellbeing. Although I didn’t manage to note everyone’s name, those I did were outstanding and a real credit to the hospital. The physiotherapy support was particularly impressive. My post-operative physiotherapist understood exactly how far my knee should be bending at each stage and struck the right balance between encouragement and reassurance. This helped me overcome the understandable mental barriers around pain and guarding, and I was given a clear and structured recovery exercise plan to follow at home.

Guitar has been an integral part of my life since I was 12 and my inability to hear pitch, intonation, harmony and to play with other musicians had not been overcome despite purchasing expensive Phonak digital hearing aids from a well-known high street retailer. I have had two appointments with Matt Frost at Harley Hearing and will have at least one more. Matt took a full history of my issues, explained clearly the physical causes of my hearing difficulties along with a detailed description of how it might be addressed. His desire to listen, to understand the nature of my hearing loss and its profound effects upon my life, allied to his incredible enthusiasm, made me feel hope for the first time in a decade. I was treated extremely kindly and it made such a difference. Everyone who works there deserves a massive thank you. I didn’t feel judged, not once. Respectful, polite and friendly and very, very prepared. I felt that I was in safe hands and I really appreciated all the security protocols. My only suggestion to make things even better, would be to have an indoor waiting area available for clients who are asked to arrive at 7am. It was not much fun waiting in the dark, in the rain, in the cold to be let in for 20 odd minutes. But as soon as that hurdle was overcome, everything went so well and a lot of that was because of the efforts of the team. They’re great. I really loved my sandwich too!

Sarah is a super friendly and helpful physiotherapist. She designs my plan, demonstrating and then watching me do the exercises to ensure I am doing them correctly. She also determines the correct weight for each exercise which I would not have had any idea about. My lower back sciatic type pain is improving as is my strength. The MoveHealth App is excellent and I can log my progress there and see videos of each exercise to check between reviews I am doing them correctly. The location is perfect for me and each review session has been helpful for my progress. There is no pressure to have a review - only when it seems appropriate. Very happy and grateful for Sarah's expertise and guidance.

Spire Harpenden Hospital

The only area for improvement is the check-in process - quite often there is a queue of people waiting at reception and the vehicle registration screen is separate to the check-in form, which isn't very efficient. The waiting area and exam rooms are clean and tidy, the staff is friendly and helpful. I prefer coming here despite it being a longer drive than my nearest private hospital because of the great experience I've had previously.

All the staff at the Spire Hospital were helpful & nothing was too much trouble so that I felt listened to in terms of my needs & any fears I had. I felt reassured that I was in excellent hands when it came to pain relief particularly immediately post op & was encouraged to get out of bed as soon as I was able. The food was enjoyable & there was a good variety which certainly helped my recovery & my room was light & very clean.
