Dr Ruwan Wimalasundera is a leading Consultant Obstetrician specialising in Foetal Medicine based at University College London Hospital (UCLH). At UCLH, Dr Wimalasundera runs the Multiple Pregnancy service.

He also sees patients privately at The Portland Hospital for Women and Children, New Victoria Hospital and Cardio Direct on Harley Street.

Dr Wimalusudera has expertise in the management of multiple pregnancies and prior to his current position, he held the position of Lead for Foetal Medicine at the Imperial College Healthcare NHS Trust at the Centre for Foetal Care at Queen Charlotte's Hospital for 10 years. In this position he ran the multiple pregnancy service.

Dr Wimalasundera qualified in medicine at King's College School of Medicine in 1991. He later became a Fellow of the Royal College of Obstetricians and Gynaecologists, subsequently completing specialist training in Obstetrics and Gynaecology at Queen Charlotte's Hospital and Chelsea Hospital. He was appointed as a Consultant Obstetrician in 2003 at Queen Charlotte's & Chelsea Hospital. He also completed research in 'Vascular Reactivity in Pre-Eclampsia' and was awarded a PhD for his work from Imperial College London in 2010.

In his current clinical practice, Mr Wimalasundera manages both normal and high risk pregnancies with particular interest in multiple pregnancies, including monochorionic pregnancies. He also has special interests in the management of twin to twin transfusion syndrome using fetoscopic laser ablation and receives numerous referrals from across the UK for this procedure. He also has expertise in delivering via caesarean section where appropriate.
