Dr Ian Currie

Dr Ian Currie is an accomplished Consultant General Surgeon and Consultant Transplant Surgeon who is committed to delivering high-quality, patient-centred care. Specialising in General Surgery and abdominal organ transplantation, he brings extensive clinical expertise and dedicated oversight to complex surgical cases. Dr Currie focuses on achieving optimal patient outcomes through meticulous surgical technique, evidence-based practices, and clear, reassuring communication throughout every stage of treatment.

Dr Currie completed his medical degree with distinction, graduating with a Bachelor of Medicine and Bachelor of Surgery with Honours and earning the prestigious gold medal for his academic cohort. Prior to his medical training, he completed a Bachelor of Science with Honours and a Doctor of Philosophy in developmental biology. He subsequently undertook specialist higher surgical training alongside a specialised fellowship in paediatric liver transplantation. Dr Currie also holds a Doctor of Medicine research degree and is a Fellow of the Royal College of Surgeons of Edinburgh and a Fellow of the Royal College of Physicians of Edinburgh.

Within his clinical practice, Dr Currie focuses on a broad spectrum of General Surgery procedures together with specialised multi-organ transplantation, including liver, kidney, and pancreas transplants. He possesses advanced expertise in managing complex abdominal conditions, performing tertiary surgical interventions for renal cancers extending into the vena cava, and leading advanced organ procurement initiatives. His clinical focus encompasses cutting-edge techniques such as normothermic regional perfusion and ex-vivo organ preservation, which are designed to enhance organ assessment and safeguard patient health.
