Mr Daniel Jonathan Ablett

Mr Daniel Jonathan Ablett is a highly skilled Consultant Vascular Surgeon and General Surgeon based in Edinburgh. He specialises in the comprehensive management of venous and arterial conditions, with a particular focus on advanced, minimally invasive treatments for varicose veins and thread veins. Known for his patient-centred approach, Mr Ablett is dedicated to delivering bespoke treatment plans tailored to the unique clinical needs of each individual, ensuring optimal outcomes and a reassuring patient experience.

In addition to his civilian practice, Mr Ablett has a distinguished background as a Surgeon Commander in the Royal Navy, having served on numerous operational tours. His extensive clinical expertise is further reflected in his academic contributions; he serves as an Honorary Senior Lecturer at the University of Edinburgh Medical School and regularly teaches on professional surgical courses. His broad clinical interests encompass complex vascular procedures, including aortic aneurysm surgery, carotid surgery, emergency vascular surgery, and vascular access for haemodialysis.

Mr Ablett graduated with his medical degree (MBChB) from the University of Glasgow in 2001. He subsequently completed higher surgical training in Edinburgh, followed by a specialist fellowship in trauma and emergency surgery at a major London teaching hospital. In 2014, he obtained a Master of Science (MSc) in Trauma Surgery from the University of Swansea. He was admitted as a Fellow of the Royal College of Surgeons of Edinburgh in 2015. Mr Ablett is an active member of several professional bodies, including the European Society of Vascular Surgery.
