Dr Paul Abrams

Dr Paul Abrams is a highly distinguished Consultant Urological Surgeon and Professor of Urology who has dedicated his career to the advancement of urological care. Renowned globally for his expertise in functional urology, he provides compassionate, patient-centred care for individuals experiencing complex bladder and urinary tract conditions. His reassuring approach ensures that patients feel supported and fully informed throughout their diagnostic and treatment journeys.

With a particular focus on lower urinary tract dysfunction, Dr Abrams has been instrumental in shaping modern urological terminology and treatment standards. His clinical interests encompass benign prostate disease, female and functional urology, neurourology, and urodynamics. He is widely recognised for co-introducing key medical terms such as 'lower urinary tract symptoms' (LUTS) and 'overactive bladder' (OAB), which have significantly improved how these conditions are diagnosed and managed worldwide.

Dr Abrams obtained his Bachelor of Medicine, Bachelor of Surgery (MB ChB) from the University of Sheffield in 1970. He was appointed a Fellow of the Royal College of Surgeons in 1974, subsequently receiving his research Doctor of Medicine (MD) from the University of Bristol in 1977, and achieving accreditation in Urology in 1981.
