Mr Samer Elsherbiny

Mr Samer Elsherbiny is a consultant ophthalmic surgeon based at Spire Parkway Hospital, Solihull and the Grafton Suite at the Stratford Hospital

He specialises in the following areas:

• Retinal Diseases (including Diabetic Retina and Vascular problems)
• General adult ophthalmology
• Cataracts
• Diabetic retinopathy
• Macular degeneration
• Retinal diseases

Mr Elsherbiny gained his medical qualification from the University of Sheffield in 1993. Before specialising in ophthalmology, he trained in general surgery, general medicine, accident and emergency and neurology. Following training in Glasgow and Leeds, he joined the specialist registrar rotation in the West Midlands. Between 2004 and 2017, he was Consultant with a specialist interest in retinal diseases at Birmingham and Midland Eye Centre. SInce 2017, he has been Consultant and Medical Retina Service Lead at the Machen Eye Unit, South Warwikchsire Foundation Trust.

In 2016 he was the Masters in Medical Education from the University of Birmingham. He also continues to run a number of different national courses in ophthalmic imaging, laser and intravitreal therapies.

Amongst his other roles, Mr Elsherbiny is an examiner and surgical skills instructor for the Royal College of Ophthalmologists and a clinical advisor to the Health Service Ombudsman. Additionally, he has co-authored numerous publications and has many areas of interest within ophthalmic practice, the most prominent of which is workforce development and education and training.
