Mr Maged Nessim

Mr Maged Nessim is a Consultant Ophthalmic Surgeon with more than 3 decades of specialist expertise in small-incision cataract surgery and the management of complex glaucoma. Throughout his career he has performed many thousands of cataract operations, he has developed extensive experience in glaucoma filtration surgery (trabeculectomy), aqueous shunt implantation incorporating the latest Paul tubes, and modern minimally invasive glaucoma surgery (MIGS) iStents and excimer laser ELIOS. He also provides a full range of glaucoma laser procedures, including selective laser trabeculoplasty (SLT), YAG (capsulotomy and iridotomy), and cyclodiode laser treatments.

Mr Nessim obtained his medical degree from the University of Alexandria, Egypt, before relocating to the United Kingdom to complete his ophthalmology training across South Wales and the West Midlands. He undertook two advanced glaucoma fellowships—first at the Birmingham & Midland Eye Centre (BMEC) and subsequently at the internationally renowned Moorfields Eye Hospital in London.

Mr Nessim has served as Clinical Director and Director of Glaucoma Services at BMEC, one of the UK’s leading supra-regional centres for ophthalmology referrals. He is also a Clinical Senior Lecturer at Aston Medical School. He has already taught and mentored more than 25 fellows who became consultants nationally and internationally.

An active educator and researcher, Mr Nessim has authored numerous publications in peer-reviewed journals, contributed to leading ophthalmology textbooks, and regularly lectures at national and international conferences. He is also the co-founder of the Global Education & Research Society of Ophthalmology (GERSO), reflecting his commitment to advancing ophthalmic education and collaborative research worldwide.
