Dr Joana Da Costa

Dr Joana Da Costa is an accomplished Consultant Respiratory Physician and Consultant in Intensive Care Medicine. She specialises in the assessment, diagnosis, and management of a wide spectrum of acute and chronic respiratory conditions, as well as sleep disorders and acute respiratory failure. Dedicated to patient-centred care, Dr Da Costa provides compassionate, evidence-based management for individuals suffering from complex breathing issues, persistent coughs, asthma, and chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD).

Dr Da Costa earned her primary medical degree from the University of Coimbra before completing extensive specialist higher training in Respiratory Medicine, General Internal Medicine, and Intensive Care Medicine across premier university teaching hospitals. She holds Membership of the Royal College of Physicians (MRCP) and completed a PhD focusing on lung injury, repair, and tissue regeneration at a leading university. In addition to her clinical commitments, Dr Da Costa serves as an Honorary Clinical Senior Lecturer, contributing significantly to medical education, academic research, and clinical trials in respiratory health.

With expertise encompassing both outpatient respiratory care and specialist sleep medicine, Dr Da Costa offers thorough clinical evaluations alongside advanced diagnostic testing. Her clinical repertoire includes pre-operative respiratory risk assessments, lung function testing, sleep studies, and non-invasive ventilation management for conditions such as sleep apnoea and obesity hypoventilation.
