About Dr Graham Cole

Dr Graham Cole is a Consultant Cardiologist based at the world-famous Hammersmith Hospital, part of Imperial College Healthcare NHS Trust. He practises privately at the Lodon Heart Practice, part of HCA Healthcare UK.

He has broad expertise in assessing patients with shortness of breath, chest pain, palpitations, dizziness, collapses and ankle swelling. He also has expertise in assessing cardiovascular risk, and assessing patients needing surgery to minimise their risk.

He is a sub-specialist in cardiac imaging, being extensively trained and accredited in using modern techniques (echo, cardiac MRI, cardiac CT) to investigate patients painlessly and non-invasively. He has additional expertise in heart failure.

Graham qualified from Gonville & Caius College, Cambridge University in 2005, achieving a First Class Honours degree in Natural Sciences. He went on to achieve the very unusual feat of Distinctions in every area of his final medical examinations at Cambridge University. He subsequently completed the Hammersmith medical rotation as a junior doctor followed by a further decade of specialist cardiology training in the prestigious North-West Thames rotation. This included a four year fellowship in cardiac MRI at the world-leading Heart Hospital Imaging Centre under Prof James Moon, the London CT fellowship and a PhD in echocardiography.

He has a track record of publishing research that matters to patients. Highlights include developing ways to help patients make individualised decisions about the pros and cons of different treatments, and developing imaging techniques to be able to make precise diagnoses and know when a patient's condition has changed. He has recently co-led a large study using advanced MRI scanning to identify the types of cardiac damage arising following COVID-19 infection and regularly sees and evaluates patients who have chest pain, shortness of breath or palpitations following COVID-19.

Patients can be assured he has a meticulous approach to making sure they receive the best treatment based on good evidence - he has previously spotlighted and successfully campaigned to change potentially harmful clinical guidelines used by thousands of doctors that were based on unreliable research.

He prides himself on a caring but clear approach, with explanations and advice tailored carefully to individual patients.

I saw Dr Cole twice. First to explain my concerns, and later to review the results of the tests he had referred me for. Dr Cole explained everything thoroughly and clearly, including treatment options. He answered my many questions in as much detail as I wanted. I’m very glad I saw him, and wouldn’t hesitate to recommend him.

I have found Dr Cole amiable and approachable and extremely conscientious in his efforts to explain the technical issues related diagnosis and treatment. (Any failures in understanding are entirely my responsibility.) I have felt he is genuinely interested in me as a patient and I am not just another body through the door.

I had an excellent consultation with Dr Cole. He was clear, reassuring, and took the time to explain my ECG findings after an occupational health review in a way that was easy to understand. The appointment was professional and well organised, and I left feeling fully informed and reassured. I would highly recommend his care.
