Mr Vijay Korwar

Mr Vijay Korwar is a well experienced Consultant General Surgeon specialising in Upper Gastrointestinal Surgery. He currently sees patients at Sandwell and West Birmingham NHS Trust and private patients at the Droitwich Spa Hospital.

Mr Korwar’s experience includes registrar-level training in the UK, where he gained extensive exposure to various general surgery subspecialties. His areas of expertise span breast surgery, colorectal surgery, vascular surgery, endocrine surgery, trauma, and transplant surgery. Mr Korwar further honed his skills through specialised training in Hepatobiliary Pancreatic surgery at Manchester University Hospital, Upper Gastrointestinal surgery at University Hospital Bristol, and Bariatric surgery at North Bristol NHS Trust. In 2017, Mr Korwar was appointed as a Consultant Upper GI surgeon at Southmead Hospital, Bristol, before continuing his impactful career at Worcestershire Acute Hospitals NHS Trust as a Consultant Upper GI surgeon.

As an experienced consultant surgeon, Mr Korwar excels in performing keyhole gallbladder and bile duct exploration surgery. His pioneering work includes the establishment of a laparoscopic ultrasound service for gallstones at Sandwell Hospital. He is also proficient in keyhole total Extra peritoneal (TEP) groin hernia repair and incisional hernia repair and has special interests in anti-reflux and hiatal hernia surgery, showcasing his dedication to innovative and patient-focused care.

Mr Korwar is actively involved in research, with numerous presentations at national and international meetings. His involvement in national research projects, including the Bluebelle, Sunflower, and PANC studies, has yielded valuable insights. His scientific publications on outcomes after biological mesh repair of hiatus hernia, breast reconstruction, and parathyroid surgery have added to the body of knowledge in the medical community.
