Tessa Fayers is a consultant ophthalmologist with a special interest
in treating adults and children with oculoplastic / eyelid and lacrimal / tear
duct conditions. She also specialises in cataract surgery and emergency / urgent care ophthalmology.
She has been an NHS consultant at Imperial College Healthcare NHS
Trust since 2015, working at the Western Eye Hospital in Marylebone, St Mary's Hospital in Paddington and Charing Cross Hospital in Hammersmith.
She graduated from Bristol University Medical School with Honours in
her medical degree and a First Class Honours degree in Psychology, for whichshe was awarded a Wolfson Foundation Award. Her ophthalmic training was based in London with more than two years of sub-specialist training in oculoplastic, orbital and lacrimal conditions at the University of British Colombia, Vancouver, Canada and Moorfields Eye Hospital, London.
She is the Research Lead for Oculoplastics in the Imperial College Ophthalmic Research Group Clinical Trials Unit and is currently Chief
Investigator for three clinical research trials. She has published numerous
original research papers in high-ranking ophthalmology journals on topics
including thyroid eye disease, blepharospasm and tear duct surgery. She has a particular interest in the impact of conditions such as thyroid eye disease and watery eyes on patients' quality of life. One of her research studies was voted the best oculoplastic paper presented at the American Academy of Ophthalmology in 2015.
She has a Diploma in Medical Education and is a Fellow of the Higher
Education Academy. She is an educational and clinical supervisor to trainee ophthalmologists in her NHS practice.
Tessa's hobbies are sports (running, cycling, swimming), cultural pursuits (piano, theatre, exhibitions, films) and spending time with her young daughter.
