Mr Parham Azarbod

M Azarbod is a Consultant Ophthalmologist at Moorfields Eye Hospital, specialising in the diagnosis and treatment of glaucoma and cataract. He has extensive experience in the medical, laser and surgical management of glaucoma, including selective laser trabeculoplasty (SLT), minimally invasive glaucoma surgery (MIGS), trabeculectomy and aqueous shunt procedures. He also performs small-incision cataract surgery, including complex cases, and frequently combines cataract surgery with minimally invasive glaucoma procedures where clinically appropriate.

He qualified from University College London in 2000 and completed specialist ophthalmology training on the North Thames Ophthalmology Rotation, including Moorfields Eye Hospital. He subsequently undertook advanced glaucoma training at the internationally renowned Jules Stein Eye Institute, UCLA, under Professor Joseph Caprioli, where he conducted research into visual field progression and glaucoma monitoring. He also completed a Clinical Glaucoma Fellowship at Moorfields Eye Hospital.

Appointed as a Consultant Ophthalmologist at Moorfields in 2015, Mr Azarbod has held several senior clinical leadership and educational positions. These include Glaucoma Service Lead for Moorfields South, Glaucoma Service Training Director and Educational Supervisor for ophthalmology trainees. He currently serves as Clinical Lead for the Community Glaucoma Monitoring Programme within Moorfields South.

He has contributed to the development and expansion of glaucoma services, improvements in patient care pathways and the successful implementation of a trustwide electronic patient record system in Moorfields South as part of Moorfields Eye Hospital’s wider digital transformation programme.

Mr Azarbod  has authored several peer-reviewed scientific publications and is co-editor, alongside Professor Peng T. Khaw, of Key Clinical Topics in Ophthalmology. He regularly lectures on postgraduate MSc programmes at University College London.

His clinical interests include early glaucoma detection, the management of progressive and advanced glaucoma, complex glaucoma surgery and combining cataract surgery with minimally invasive glaucoma treatments.

He places particular emphasis on providing individualised, evidence-based care, taking time to explain diagnoses and treatment options clearly so that patients feel informed and confident in decisions about their eye health.
