Dr Shiwen Koay

Dr Shiwen Koay is a dedicated Consultant Neurologist who provides expert care for patients experiencing a broad range of general and complex neurological conditions. She is committed to delivering thorough diagnostic evaluations and individualised treatment plans, ensuring that patients feel supported and well-informed throughout their care pathway. With a compassionate clinical approach, Dr Koay works closely with multidisciplinary teams to optimise patient health outcomes and overall quality of life.

Her clinical focus encompasses peripheral nerve conditions and autonomic neurological disorders. Dr Koay possesses specialist interest in inflammatory neuropathies, including chronic inflammatory demyelinating polyneuropathy (CIDP), paraproteinaemic neuropathies, and POEMS syndrome. Additionally, she routinely evaluates patients presenting with neurological complications secondary to immunotherapy, as well as individuals suffering from autonomic neuropathies and synucleinopathies. Her expertise involves combining advanced diagnostic techniques with tailored therapeutic strategies to manage complex neuromuscular conditions effectively.

Dr Koay completed both her undergraduate medical degree and postgraduate neurology training in London. Driven by a strong dedication to research and clinical advancement, she was awarded a Doctor of Philosophy (PhD) focusing on autonomic biomarkers. She further refined her expertise by completing a post-CCT specialist fellowship in neuromuscular diseases. Active within the wider neurological community, Dr Koay serves as Treasurer for the British Peripheral Nerve Society.
