Dr Rosalie Ferner

Dr Rosalie Ferner is a highly distinguished Consultant Neurologist and Professor of Neurology who specialises in complex neurological disorders and neurocutaneous conditions. With an objective, professional, and reassuring approach, she provides expert medical care to individuals navigating rare and challenging conditions. Dr Ferner is internationally recognised for her clinical leadership in neurofibromatosis and nerve tumours, offering compassionate, patient-centred support to individuals and their families.

Dr Ferner completed her medical degree at Newcastle University, qualifying in 1981. She subsequently completed general medical and neurological training, earning a Fellowship of the Royal College of Physicians (FRCP) and later being appointed as Professor of Neurology. Throughout her career, Dr Ferner has held prominent professional leadership positions, serving as a Trustee and Medical Advisory Board Member for Nerve Tumours UK, as well as Vice Chair of the European Clinical Care Advisory Board for Neurofibromatosis.

Her primary clinical focus lies in the diagnosis, assessment, and holistic management of neurofibromatosis type 1 (NF1), neurofibromatosis type 2 (NF2), and schwannomatosis. Dr Ferner possesses specialised expertise in identifying and managing optic pathway gliomas, plexiform neurofibromas, and malignant peripheral nerve sheath tumours. To ensure accurate diagnosis and precise monitoring, she utilises advanced diagnostic modalities, including positron emission tomography (PET-CT, PET-MRI) and magnetic resonance imaging (MRI).
