Dr Nicola Barnes

Dr Nicola Barnes is a highly accomplished Consultant Oncoplastic Breast Surgeon specialising in General Surgery, with a dedicated focus on breast care. She serves as a Clinical Director, overseeing patient access across surgical and outpatient services, and is deeply committed to delivering high-quality, patient-centred care. Throughout her career, Dr Barnes has focused on combining oncological safety with optimal cosmetic outcomes, ensuring that patients undergoing breast surgery receive comprehensive and reassuring support.

With a particular passion for improving quality-of-life outcomes for individuals following breast cancer treatment, Dr Barnes has developed a strong clinical interest in managing the side effects of endocrine therapy. She has worked collaboratively to establish dedicated clinics and educational programmes designed to support patients through their recovery journey. Her clinical expertise spans the diagnosis and treatment of both benign and malignant breast conditions, including advanced oncoplastic breast surgery and breast reconstruction techniques.

Dr Barnes graduated with an MB ChB with Honours from The University of Manchester in 1998. She completed her Higher Surgical Training in the North West of England and was awarded a Royal College of Surgeons of England Research Fellowship in 2004. She subsequently obtained her Doctor of Medicine (MD) research degree in 2008, focusing on the biological factors influencing breast cancer progression. Dr Barnes became a Fellow of the Royal College of Surgeons of England (FRCS) in 2012 and completed a prestigious National Training Interface Group (TIG) Fellowship in Oncoplastic Breast Surgery in 2013.
