Professor Aali Sheen is a Consultant General Surgeon specialising in abdominal wall hernias. After completing his medical training in Dundee, he undertook specialist training in General Surgery in London, Leeds and Manchester. Following this, he trained in specialist ‘keyhole' hernia surgery in Sweden.

Professor Sheen is recognised as a national leader in the management of patients/athletes with groin pain. He redefined the meaning of a ‘sportsman's groin', publishing the first consensus statement for groin pain in athletes in 2014. He has been published extensively in this field and is regularly invited to speak at international conferences. He was recently the UK's Lead Investigator in the world's first randomised controlled trial comparing treatments for sportsman's groin.

He has extensive experience treating both elite and amateur athletes for groin injuries, including a number of Premiership football players. He believes that it is not always appropriate to operate and physiotherapy along with other treatments such as Plasma injections and/or Shockwave Therapy can be highly beneficial.

Professor Sheen recently has undertaken surgery in Robotic surgery and was the first person in the world to undertake a robotic inguinal hernia repair with the Versius system rvTEP

He is a core member of Manchester's Hip and Groin Clinic at MIHP and also sees patients outside of this group.
