    About

I have been a Consultant Gynaecologist for over 17 years. My area of interest is urogynaecology which involves looking after women with conditions such as prolapse of the womb/vagina, urinary incontinence, overactive bladder, cystitis, recurrent urinary tract infections, bladder pain syndrome (interstitial cystitis), etc. I also look after women with other gynaecological conditions such as menstrual disorders, ovarian cysts, pelvic pain, diagnosis of cancer, etc.

In my opinion, the most important aspect of providing care is listening to patients, identifying their concerns and establishing what is important to them. Only by doing this can one decide what investigations and treatment are required. In most cases, there will be a choice of treatments and I work in partnership with my patients so that they understand their options and come to a decision which is right for them. I take comfort from the positive feedback I receive from patients and colleagues for my work.

I was not sure what to expect. Being quite busy meant I did not research Mr Matharu. I needn't have worried. He has an empathetic, calm, very human approach - believe you me quite a few doctors do not - and listens carefully. His professionalism is first class - a credit to his profession.

My appointment with Mr Matharu was incredibly efficient. I didn’t feel uncomfortable at any point. Mr Matharu affords you the opportunity to talk and he listens so well before discussing his thoughts. This is the very first appointment I have had with a consultant who listens and appears to care, where considerations are discussed openly and next steps are decided in collaboration. I have great confidence in Mr Matharu, extremely professional and very caring. Thank you!

I am most grateful for your very kind comments. As I have stated previously, the most important aspect of any consultation is to listen to the person in front of you. Only then can one assess what is bothering that person. I always try and put my myself in the patient's seat and ask, what would I want from the consultation. All decisions should be made in partnership with patients and not what suits the doctor. I am pleased that you had a positive experience.

I came to Mr Matharu after an extremely uncomfortable experience with an NHS doctor. Mr Matharu listened and treated me with dignity and respect throughout the conversation and examination. Mr Matharu has been respectful enough of my wishes to consider the treatment which feels appropriate for me at the moment whilst helping me understand the success rate of the first stage of treatment I have opted for. I came home from the appointment feeling heard and treated with care and compassion.
