Imran Rafiq is a Consultant Spinal Orthopaedic and Trauma Surgeon with extensive training and expertise in all aspects of spinal surgery. He graduated from King Edward Medical College (Punjab University) in 1999 and went on to complete his basic surgical training in North West England.
During his early training, he achieved a Master’s degree in Clinical Health Sciences from the University of Central Lancashire, followed by a higher research degree (MCh) in Orthopaedic Surgery. He then completed Higher Surgical Training in Trauma and Orthopaedic Surgery across South West England and North West London.
Mr Rafiq developed his subspecialist expertise in spinal surgery through a British Orthopaedic Association transitional fellowship at the renowned Stoke Mandeville Hospital, home to the National Spinal Cord Injury Centre. He further advanced his skills in complex and minimally invasive spinal surgery through additional training at leading centres, including the Royal National Orthopaedic Hospital in Stanmore and Oxford University Hospitals.
He is trained in the full spectrum of spinal conditions, including degenerative disorders, spinal deformity, tumours, trauma and infection, across the cervical, thoracic and lumbosacral spine. He was appointed as a Consultant Spinal Orthopaedic and Trauma Surgeon at Medway Maritime NHS Foundation Trust in 2016.
Alongside his clinical work, Mr Rafiq has contributed to research with multiple scientific publications and presentations at national and international forums. He is actively involved in teaching and training surgeons and trainees at both national and international levels.
He holds professional memberships with the British Association of Spine Surgeons, the North American Spine Society and AO Spine, reflecting his commitment to maintaining high standards and staying at the forefront of developments in spinal surgery.
