About Mr Ellis Downes
Ellis Downes is a highly experienced Consultant Obstetrician and Gynaecologist in the UK. He has been a Consultant for over 25 years. His special areas of interest include the menopause, period problems, bladder problems and prolapse. In December 2022 and December 2023 he was awarded the title of "Best Private Obstetrician & Gynaecologist in London" by LuxLife Magazine. He has previously featured in Tatler's Top 250 Doctors Guide.
Mr Downes helps women with heavy and/or irregular periods, pelvic pain, endometriosis, fibroids, menopausal symptoms and urinary leakage. He offers general gynaecological reviews including cervical smears and fertility investigations, as well as having comprehensive pregnancy care packages from conception through to delivery at The Portland Hospital. Thanks to his reputation patients are willing to travel from abroad to be treated by him.
Mr Downes graduated from the University of Leicester in 1989 and qualified as an Obstetrician and Gynaecologist in 1999. He spent time working as a Consultant in the NHS for 11 years before deciding to commit full time to his private practice. Mr Downes is a member of The British Society of Gynecological Endoscopy, the International Society of Gynecologic Endoscopy and the International Continence Society. He holds a number of leading positions.
He is married to Louise, who helps him in the practice and they have two adult children (George and Lily). Outside of medicine he struggles on the golf course, loves messing around in boats and walking his aging Jack Russell, Roxy

Excellent doctor. Mr. Downes explained my condition clearly and how to carry out a protocol that would alleviate my pain. I have been offered surgery if this protocol doesn't work over the next few weeks. He also took a thorough history of my previous gynaecological issues. He had a very relaxed attitude and would happily see him again for any medical dilemmas.

It was lovely meeting Mr. Dawn, he was very welcoming & made me feel at ease, which wasn’t the easiest after being for 38 years with Mr. Mason. He was very efficient and explained to me every step of procedure which went on very smoothly. Emma and Debbie were very helpful and pleasant too.
Mr. Downes was exceedingly professional yet had a very reassuring bedside manner.
