Mr Bruno Sgromo

Mr Bruno Sgromo, Consultant General Surgeon is renowned for his expertise in upper gastrointestinal surgery, minimally invasive surgery (keyhole) and robotic surgery. His current position is within Oxford University Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust. He assesses and treats patients with benign and malignant conditions such as acid reflux, gallstones/biliary conditions, achalasia, obesity/associated conditions, hernias of the abdominal wall and the hiatus, cancer of the stomach and oesophagus.

With a strong commitment to research and education, Mr Sgromo focuses on enhancing treatments for cancer of the stomach and oesophagus, as well as obesity and bariatric surgery. His research in the field of bariatric surgery specifically explores the effects of obesity on liver function and the transformative impact of bariatric procedures.

With over 15 years of experience in weight loss surgery, Mr Sgromo specialises in laparoscopic, robotic & revisional surgery following gastric band, roux-en-Y gastric bypass, sleeve gastrectomy and mini gastric bypass procedures.

He completed his undergraduate training at The University Magna Graecia, Catanzaro, Italy, followed by specialisation in general surgery across Italy, the Netherlands, and Scotland.

Mr Sgromo further honed his skills through an oesophago-gastric cancer fellowship in Dundee and Oxford, resulting in his appointment as Consultant Surgeon for Oxford Radcliffe Hospitals NHS Trust in 2009. In Oxford, he has played a pivotal role in developing and leading the bariatric unit and the minimally invasive programme for stomach and oesophageal cancer.

Mr Sgromo is a member of the National Bariatric Registry Committee for the British Obesity and Metabolic Surgery Society. He frequently presents at prestigious international conferences such as the International Federation for the Surgery of Obesity, BOMSS, and AUGIS. Additionally, he co-directs the Oxford IBC bariatric surgery conference.
