I am an experienced consultant gynaecologist and subspecialty-trained gynaecological oncologist. Alongside my NHS practice at a leading tertiary cancer centre, where I care for women with complex cervical, uterine, ovarian and vulval cancers, I offer private consultations and surgery for a wide range of gynaecological concerns.
My extensive surgical experience includes surgery for advanced and recurrent cancers of the vulva, uterus, ovary and cervix, such as lymph node dissections, pelvic exenterations and radical hysterectomy. I also support women struggling with more common gynaecological problems, including heavy or painful periods, fibroids, ovarian cysts, PCOS, menopause symptoms, adenomyosis, endometriosis, and concerns about cancer risk. Where surgery is needed, I can provide minimally invasive options such as laparoscopic or robotic surgery, as well as open (abdominal) surgery, tailored to each woman’s needs.
I am an accredited colposcopist specialising in the management of abnormal cervical smears, with additional expertise in vulval skin disorders. I provide outpatient procedures such as colposcopy, biopsies, hysteroscopies, and coil insertions in a reassuring and comfortable setting.
As a member of the British Menopause Society I am passionate about the provision of high quality perimenopause and menopause care. Within the NHS I have led quality improvement work to improve access to HRT for women after cancer treatment or risk reducing surgery, and I am principal investigator of the PROTECTOR study in Manchester — a groundbreaking national study offering women at increased risk of ovarian cancer a surgical option that delays the onset of menopause. I am well versed on lifestyle and non hormonal approaches to problems such as PCOS and menopause related symptoms.
I have a strong academic background, having been awarded an MD from the University of Manchester in 2016 on the impact of weight loss on endometrial cancer risk. I have published widely in peer reviewed journals, book chapters and national guidelines, and received prizes from the RCOG and ESGO which supported a period of overseas training in advanced ovarian cancer surgical techniques.
I also play an active role in shaping the future of the specialty as Vice Chair of the RCOG Subspecialty Training Committee, and as a member of the Curriculum and Special Interest Training Committees. I have been heavily involved in the redesign of Obstetrics & Gynaecology training and the assessment of centres and doctors in training to ensure the provision of high quality training to the specialists of the future.
Above all, I am committed to providing individualized, compassionate and evidence-based care for women at every stage of life – I can help women struggling with pain or bleeding problems, those worrying about a smear result or symptoms they fear may indicate cancer, to those who need highly specialised cancer treatment.
