Dr Karin Schwarz

Dr Karin Schwarz is a dedicated Consultant Paediatrician and Neonatologist who provides compassionate and comprehensive care for newborns, infants, and children. Focusing extensively on neonatal care, she offers specialist support for premature and unwell infants requiring high-dependency and intensive care, alongside general paediatric outpatient care for older children. Her clinical approach emphasises family-centred care, ensuring that parents are supported and actively involved in every stage of their child's treatment.

Dr Schwarz earned her medical degree in Germany in 1991 before completing her postgraduate specialist training in Paediatrics in Yorkshire. Throughout her career, she has held key educational and governance leadership positions, including serving as the Head of School of Paediatrics for Health Education England in Yorkshire and the Humber. In this leadership role, she oversaw postgraduate paediatric training programmes and advocated for high educational standards for future child health specialists.

Her clinical interests centre on neonatal intensive care, developmental outcomes for vulnerable newborns, and quality improvement in child health services. Dr Schwarz actively participates in clinical research, clinical audits, and patient safety initiatives. Trained in local incident investigation, she works alongside multidisciplinary teams and regional neonatal networks to refine clinical guidelines, maintain safe patient care environments, and continuously improve clinical outcomes for young patients.
