Dr John Henton

Dr John Henton is a Consultant Plastic Surgeon with expertise in reconstructive microsurgery, breast reconstruction, limb reconstruction, and lymphoedema surgery. He focuses on restoring both function and appearance for patients who have experienced major trauma, cancer surgery, or chronic conditions. Dr Henton works closely with multidisciplinary clinical teams, including Orthopaedic Surgeons, to deliver comprehensive surgical care tailored to the individual needs of each patient.

His primary areas of clinical focus include autologous breast reconstruction using advanced microvascular flap techniques, such as DIEP and TUG flaps, which utilise a patient's own tissue to achieve natural reconstructive results. Additionally, Dr Henton has extensive expertise in complex reconstructive surgery for open lower limb fractures following severe physical trauma. He has also introduced advanced techniques in lymphatic surgery, including immediate and delayed lymphatic reconstruction, alongside specialised nerve procedures designed to manage post-amputation pain.

Dr Henton completed his Bachelor of Science in Orthopaedic Science at University College London in 2003, before earning his medical degree (MBBS) from St Bartholomew's and the Royal London School of Medicine and Dentistry in 2004. He subsequently completed a Master of Science in Surgical Science with distinction at Imperial College London in 2012. He was awarded Membership of the Royal College of Surgeons of England in 2008 and attained his Fellowship in Plastic Surgery, FRCS(Plast), in 2018. Following a specialist fellowship in reconstructive microsurgery, he obtained his Certificate of Completion of Training in Plastic Surgery in 2019.

In addition to his clinical responsibilities, Dr Henton maintains an active interest in surgical research and education. His academic work focuses on microvascular perfusion dynamics and clinical outcomes in complex reconstructive procedures. He regularly contributes to peer-reviewed surgical journals and serves as a journal reviewer, remaining committed to advancing patient care through evidence-based practice and modern surgical techniques.
