Dr Ianthe Oona Abbey

Dr Ianthe Oona Abbey is a highly dedicated Consultant Paediatrician who specialises in diagnosing and managing a wide range of paediatric conditions. Serving as a Clinical Director in child health, she is deeply committed to delivering comprehensive, patient-centred care that is tailored to the unique needs of every child. Her compassionate and meticulous approach ensures that young patients and their families feel supported and reassured throughout their healthcare journey.

With a broad range of expertise, Dr Abbey has a particular clinical interest in paediatric epilepsy and neurodisability. She has been actively involved in pioneering quality improvement initiatives, such as streamlining emergency seizure plans and introducing patient-held epilepsy passports for children with complex epilepsy. Her clinical focus also encompasses neonatology, developmental disorders, infectious diseases, and chronic childhood illnesses, including asthma and respiratory conditions. She is passionate about implementing advanced immunisation strategies and developing personalised care plans to improve long-term patient outcomes.

Dr Abbey completed her medical education at Newcastle University, where she obtained her primary medical qualification. She is a Member of the Royal College of Paediatrics and Child Health (MRCPCH) and is on the General Medical Council Specialist Register for Paediatrics. Throughout her career, she has remained dedicated to continuing medical education, clinical governance, and mentoring undergraduate and postgraduate medical trainees.
