Dr Elena Cernat

Dr Elena Cernat is a highly regarded Consultant Paediatric Gastroenterologist based in Leeds, United Kingdom. Specialising in the comprehensive care of infants, children, and young people, she has a dedicated clinical focus on paediatric nutrition, intestinal failure, and rehabilitation. Dr Cernat is committed to providing compassionate, evidence-based care to young patients experiencing complex gastrointestinal and nutritional challenges, ensuring that each child receives a tailored treatment plan to support their growth and development.

Throughout her career, Dr Cernat has developed extensive expertise in managing a wide range of digestive disorders. Her clinical interests include short bowel syndrome, congenital and acquired chronic diarrhoea, motility problems, and inflammatory bowel disease (IBD). She is also highly skilled in treating paediatric coeliac disease, gastro-oesophageal reflux, reflux oesophagitis, and eosinophilic gastrointestinal diseases. Additionally, Dr Cernat provides specialised support for children with gastrointestinal issues related to neurodisability, as well as functional gastrointestinal disorders such as irritable bowel syndrome. Dr Cernat completed her primary medical education at the University of Valencia in Spain, graduating with a Bachelor's Degree in Medicine in 2010.
