Dr Affifa Farrukh

I qualified in Pakistan from Nishtar Medical College, Bahuddin Zakariya University, and trained as a general physician and gastroenterologist in the UK. I am a consultant physician and
gastroenterologist. and practice within the NHS and the private sector.

I am a Fellow of the Royal College of Physicians of Glasgow and also of Ireland. I hold the MRCP(G astroenterology). I am a Fellow of the European Board of Gastroenterology and
Hepatology. I am a trained acupuncturist and also hold an MSc (with distinction) in Pain Management. My acupuncture practice includes Western Acupuncture, Traditional Chinese Acupuncture and Master Tung style acupuncture.

I was called to the Bar at Lincoln's Inn having trained in the law at Nottingham Trent University. My LLM was awarded with dstinction. I am a Member of the Chartered Institute of Arbitrators and a Graduate Member of the Institute of Legal Executives.

I hold a licence to practice from the General Medical Council and I am on its specialty
registers for both General (Internal) Medicine and Gastroenterology.

My main clinical interests are in the field of inflammatory bowel disease, endoscopy, coeliac
disease and equality in the delivery of care. However, I also con tinue topractice as a consultant in general internal medicine, including acute medical intakes.

I have published more than twenty papers in peer review journals. My current research is focused on ethnic issues in the delivery of care and the role of complementary medicine.
