Dr Frank Phillips is an experienced and dedicated Consultant Gastroenterologist at Nottingham University Hospitals NHS Trust, where he investigates and treats patients with the full range of conditions related to the upper and lower gastrointestinal tract, including:
His subspecialty expertise in both advanced clinical nutrition and inflammatory bowel disease (IBD) means he is integral to both teams, receiving tertiary centre referrals from hospitals throughout the East Midlands region for complex IBD, complex feeding tube complications and intestinal failure.
Dr Phillips performs around 600 diagnostic and therapeutic endoscopies a year, and provides a regional service for advanced techniques relating to feeding tube complications. He prioritises quality, safety and comfort, using water-assisted insertion techniques for colonoscopy and the highly effective underwater technique for removing larger polyps.
Dr Phillips’ comprehensive training and diverse clinical practice enables him to provide his patients with the highest quality care. He holds degrees in Biochemistry (University of Bristol) and Medicine (St George’s, University of London), achieving a Distinction in Medical Sciences. He remains one of the only gastroenterologists to have completed their specialty exit examination in the first year of training, and to have achieved triple fellowship training in advanced clinical nutrition, inflammatory bowel disease, and advanced endoscopy at the renowned centres of Addenbrooke’s Hospital Cambridge and St Mark’s Hospital London.
Dr Phillips continues to be actively involved in research, having delivered important evidence on the risks and safety of endoscopy in the COVID era. He has a number of first author publications in high impact journals and has presented his research findings internationally, earning recognition with a British Society of Gastroenterology Research Prize. He continues to be dedicated to medical training at all levels, including organising and sponsoring medical students affected by war and conflict to study in Nottingham on their medical electives.

I cannot recommend Dr Phillips highly enough and my consultantions and procedures were made easy and more comfortable because of the great care received. Thank you from a very grateful patient.
I went to see Dr Philips for ongoing GI issues, and I had a really positive experience from start to finish. He took the time to go through all my symptoms in detail and explained everything clearly in a way that was easy to understand, which really helped ease my anxiety. What I appreciated most was how thorough and attentive he was — he didn’t dismiss anything and made sure to investigate properly to get to the root of the problem. Throughout the process, I felt supported, reassured, and in very safe hands. The whole experience, from consultation to follow-up, was handled with professionalism and genuine care. I’m very grateful for his help and would highly recommend him to anyone dealing with similar issues.
I was impressed with Dr. Phillips calm, professional manner throughout my procedure. I have had a previous colonoscopy which was extremely painful and was not completed - this was an infinitely better experience. My needs during the procedure were heard and acted upon, and resulted in a completed procedure, giving me peace of mind in the results. I couldn't recommend Dr. Phillips enough.
Dr Phillips was very understanding of my concerns during the initial consultation. During my procedure kept me at ease throughout the process ensuring I was as comfortable as possible.
Dr Phillips is very professional and caring. He explains the procedures you need clearly and in language which you understand. He listens to your concerns and offers solutions whether it's medication or procedures necessary.
A really positive experience for an endoscopy that I was very nervous about - would highly recommend Dr Phillips and his team - they remained incredibly professional throughout whilst also making me feel very at ease.
I was booked in for colonoscopy and a throat examination. Everything was explained to me very well, it was quick and easy in and out. Very good all round
My experience of the Circle Heath Group, all of the staff at the Park Hospital and Dr Frank Phillips was fabulous. Dr Phillips was extremely professional, reassuring and explained everything in detail. The whole procedure was conducted in a timely manner and carried out exactly to plan.
I have had a colonoscopy carried out with Dr Phillips which I was dreading due to a previous experience with another Doctor which took well over an hour to conduct. This procedure took 17 minutes and was a lot less painful than previous. The whole team was great and Dr Phillips was very clear and knowledgeable which puts you at ease
Frank is a top level gastroenterologist, who is as dedicated to his patients as he is to his craft. His care and communication are exemplary. We are fortunate to have him in the region.
