Dr David Van Dellen

Dr David Van Dellen is an esteemed Consultant General Surgeon and Consultant Transplant Surgeon dedicated to providing reassuring, high-quality care to patients requiring surgical intervention. Recognised for his clinical leadership and expertise in complex abdominal procedures, he focuses on delivering thorough evaluations and individualised treatment plans tailored to each patient's specific health needs. In his clinical practice, Dr Van Dellen manages a broad spectrum of general surgical conditions alongside advanced transplant procedures. His areas of expertise encompass both open and minimally invasive laparoscopic (keyhole) techniques for hernia repairs, including complex incisional, ventral, and inguinal hernias. He offers specialised care in abdominal wall reconstruction, vascular access surgery for dialysis, and the management of encapsulating peritoneal sclerosis. Furthermore, Dr Van Dellen possesses extensive experience in kidney, pancreas, and islet cell transplantation, contributing significantly to modern surgical strategies and organ utilisation.

Dr Van Dellen completed his primary medical degree at the University of the Witwatersrand in 1997. Following his initial qualification, he undertook higher postgraduate research and earned a Doctor of Medicine (MD) degree from the University of Birmingham in 2005, focusing on epithelial biology. He completed specialist surgical training across the West Midlands and North West, obtaining Fellowship of the Royal College of Surgeons (FRCS) in General and Transplantation Surgery.
