Mr. Leo earned his primary medical degree at the University Perugia, Italy, after which he undertook his training in General and Colorectal Surgery, for which he gained his Medical Doctorate cum laude in General Surgery from the University of Udine, in addition to his diploma in General Surgery. After this, Mr. Leo moved to the UK to work as a specialist registrar at St. Mark's Hospital, where he gained a fellowship in Neuromodulation and Physiology under the renowned Miss Carolynne Vaizey.
Since his Consultant appointment at Northwick Park and St Mark's Hospital, Mr. Leo has also earned his Medical Doctorate from Imperial College London, for his research on the treatment and diagnosis of faecal incontinence. He has also published numerous scientific research papers on colorectal disorders and pelvic floor conditions and has presented his research at various national and international conferences and meetings.

Mr Alex Leo immediately set me at ease with his clear and direct explanations alongside a jovial and friendly attitude. He has been absolutely instrumental in helping my complex fistula problem, I could not be more grateful. Everything was done with the utmost care and he always had time for my extensive questions. He is evidently highly skilled and knowledgeable - the personable, honest, and clear communication made my experience even better.

Dr Alex Leo was really reassuring and informational about my hernia on my first consultation, making sure to answer all of my questions. His style was very professional and he even found ways to insert humour making the whole process feel friendly. He nicely presented all the choices (unlikely complications, recovery times, scar types) and even recommended the one that he would honestly pick in my position. This all made me feel more calm and confident in the choice of surgery, which ended up being great and with a smooth recovery and no complications.

I have been delighted with Mr. Leo from the initial consultation and surgery, to the follow up consultation. Mr. Leo has a friendly manner, is sympathetic and explained all aspects of my condition, surgery and what to expect. When I had concerns following surgery, my queries were answered promptly. I have felt all along that I was considered as a human being, rather than just a body part. Thanks, also, to Katie (Mr. Leo's PA).

Mr Leo explained very clearly the procedure I was having which put me at ease. His manner felt genuinely friendly and during the procedure he continued to keep me informed as well as showing constant concern for my comfort and general wellbeing.
