I am a Consultant Upper GI Surgeon with over a decade of experience specialising in the treatment of acid reflux, gallstones, and hernias across both the NHS and private sector.
After studying Medicine at the University of Cambridge, I undertook specialist training in Upper GI, Bariatric, and General Surgery in Leeds, London, Liverpool, and Manchester. I subsequently spent two years as a Consultant Surgeon at Arrowe Park Hospital, where I played a key role in improving care for acute biliary emergencies and established a pioneering Laparoscopic Transgastric ERCP service for the treatment of common bile duct stones following bariatric surgery — one of the few services of its kind in the North West.
I have extensive expertise in laparoscopic (keyhole) surgery and have performed more than 1,000 laparoscopic cholecystectomies for gallbladder disease. I also have significant experience in advanced minimally invasive surgery for complex benign Upper GI conditions, including anti-reflux surgery, achalasia, large hiatus hernias, and the management of bile duct stones. My practice focuses on delivering safe, evidence-based treatment using modern minimally invasive techniques to support faster recovery and excellent patient outcomes.
For the past eight years, I have been part of the Upper GI surgical team at Stepping Hill Hospital, Stockport. Together, we have developed one of the leading centres for complex benign Upper GI surgery in Greater Manchester and the wider North West. I am also proud to work within a General Surgery department recognised nationally for delivering some of the UK’s best outcomes in emergency abdominal surgery.
As Upper GI Cancer Lead for Stockport, I have been closely involved in expanding the Upper GI Clinical Nurse Specialist (CNS), Advanced Clinical Practitioner (ACP), and Cancer Navigator services to enhance patient care and support. In 2022, I was honoured to be nominated for an “Inspirational Leader” award by my colleagues in recognition of my work as Lead Clinician.
I am committed to innovation and service development, having introduced techniques including intraoperative indocyanine green (ICG) imaging and transnasal oesophagogastroduodenoscopy (OGD) to the Trust, as well as re-establishing the Laparoscopic Common Bile Duct Exploration service after a ten-year hiatus.
I was recently elected Secretary of the British Benign Upper GI Surgical Society, a role through which I look forward to supporting education, training, and surgical collaboration across the North West in the coming years.
My private practice is based at the Spire Regency Hospital and Circle Alexandra Hospital, where I provide high-quality, patient-centred care for individuals with Upper GI and General Surgical conditions, with a particular interest in the management of acid reflux disease.
