Mr Sumit Nandi

Mr Sumit Nandi is an Consultant Upper Gastrointestinal (GI) surgeon based at Lancashire Teaching Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust. As an Upper GI surgeon, he is able to treat a range of conditions including hernias, gallbladder issues such as gallstones, and reflux disease. He is able to perform laparoscopic (keyhole) techniques in order to manage conditions affecting the upper gastrointestinal tract. Having gained his degree in 2009 from the Kings College London, Mr Nandi has significant clinical experience in managing a variety of Upper GI pathologies. 

He undertook a dedicated period of research gaining a Doctor of Medicine (MD) from the University of Liverpool in Surgery and Oncology in 2020, focussed on the treatment of pancreatic cancer using nanoparticles. For his research, Mr Nandi was awarded a prestigious One-Year Research Fellowship by the Royal College of Surgeons of England supported by the Freemasons. He is a current Fellow of the Royal College of Surgeons of England since 2022.

He regularly contributes to his department's activities including acting as the Major Trauma Lead for General Surgery for the regional Trauma Network and providing surgical services for patient undergoing peritoneal dialysis.

Outside of his clinical work, Mr Nandi is passionate about Medical Education formally teaching of medical students and surgeons of all grades.

He lives locally with his wife and 2 children.
