Dr Andrew Baxter

Dr Andrew Baxter is a highly dedicated Consultant Gastroenterologist who specialises in pancreatic disease, hepatobiliary medicine, and advanced therapeutic endoscopy. He serves in a senior leadership capacity as a Deputy Head of Service for Endoscopy, where he oversees high-volume endoscopy services, ensures compliance with rigorous quality-assurance standards, and prioritises patient safety across all procedures. In his clinical practice, Dr Baxter provides comprehensive care for both inpatient luminal disorders and a wide array of outpatient gastrointestinal conditions, delivering reassuring and patient-centred medical support.

With a strong clinical focus on complex digestive diseases, Dr Baxter co-leads multidisciplinary team clinics for chronic pancreatitis and cystic fibrosis-related liver and gastrointestinal diseases. His advanced procedural expertise includes performing complex therapeutic endoscopy, such as Endoscopic Retrograde Cholangiopancreatography (ERCP) for stone extraction and stenting, as well as diagnostic and therapeutic Endoscopic Ultrasound (EUS). He is also highly skilled in managing acute upper gastrointestinal haemorrhage and performing urgent therapeutic interventions, ensuring that patients receive rapid and effective treatment during critical medical emergencies.

Dr Baxter obtained his primary medical qualification, receiving his Bachelor of Medicine, Bachelor of Surgery (MBChB), and is a Member of the Royal College of Physicians (MRCP). He further advanced his clinical expertise by completing a specialised fellowship in advanced endoscopy, which equipped him with the technical skills required for intricate luminal stenting and therapeutic procedures. Committed to advancing the field of gastroenterology, he actively contributes to clinical research and serves as the Chair of the Gastroenterology Audit and Research Network (GARNet), where he helps coordinate collaborative research and service improvement initiatives.
