Dr. Colin Kong

Dr Colin Kong is a Consultant Gastroenterologist practising at Spire Manchester Hospital, where he sees patients for a wide range of gastrointestinal conditions. His specialist interests include inflammatory bowel disease, such as Crohn’s disease, ulcerative colitis, and IBD unspecified. He also treats individuals experiencing irritable bowel syndrome, heartburn, indigestion, reflux, and Barrett’s oesophagus. In addition, Dr Kong provides bowel cancer screening and carries out advanced therapeutic endoscopic procedures, including gastroscopy, colonoscopy, PEG insertion, and endoscopic mucosal resection (EMR) for polyp removal.

At Spire Manchester Hospital, Dr Kong offers both diagnostic and therapeutic endoscopy services. He is a nationally accredited Bowel Cancer Screening colonoscopist, which means he performs colonoscopies to a nationally recognised high standard. His performance is assessed through rigorous internal and external audits each year. To date, he has conducted over 4,000 colonoscopies and more than 3,000 gastroscopies, reflecting his extensive clinical experience.

Dr Kong also holds an NHS consultant post at Stockport NHS Foundation Trust, where he has worked since 2016. He completed his medical degree at the University of Dundee in 2007, graduating on the Dean’s List. He then completed his Foundation Year training in Edinburgh in 2009, followed by Core Medical Training in Glasgow in 2011. He undertook his specialist training in gastroenterology in the North West Deanery before assuming his current consultant roles.

In addition to his clinical work, Dr Kong plays an active role in teaching and training. He is currently the Endoscopy Training Lead in his NHS department and previously served as Governance Lead. He is involved in training medical students, doctors in training, nurse endoscopists, and physician associates in both ward-based and endoscopy settings.
