Dr Akinfemi Akingboye is a Consultant Laparoscopic Colorectal and General Surgeon at The Dudley Group Hospital NHS Foundation Trust.
He has extensive experience in laparoscopic (keyhole) surgery for colorectal cancer and other diseases of the gastrointestinal tract. In addition to managing hereditary cancer syndromes, he offers colonoscopy screening for bowel cancer, endoscopic and minimally invasive management of colonic polyps, surgery for Crohn's disease, ulcerative colitis and functional bowel disorder, treatment of haemorrhoids, rectal bleeding and other benign anal conditions.
Dr. Akingboye undertook his initial medical degree at the University of Ibadan, Nigeria in 2000. He trained at Cambridge Deanery in the UK before undertaking a subspecialist colorectal fellowship at St Mark's Hospital in London. He then became a consultant and earned the Braun Aesculap Travelling Scholarship which he undertook at the Mayo Clinic Rochester in Minnesota USA. In 2012, he earned a Doctorate of Medicine degree from Queen Mary University of London following his research in vascular and inflammatory biology.
He has experience in a number of UK hospitals, including Colchester General Hospital, Peterborough City Hospital and University Hospital Luton. He is currently in the process of completing the East of England Deanery Surgical training programme, of which he has been undertaking since 2012.
Dr. Akingboye also has a keen interest in research, with a number of publications to his name. He is a fellow of the Royal College of Surgeons.
